Hi,

I am new to head-fi and I plan to buy new cans for home listening. I´ve decided to buy AKG K240s, but I need your help with one specific problem.
Their impendance is 55 Ohms. Does this mean, that I need some specific ampilifier to drive it?

I noticed that my current cans are 32 Ohm. I drive them from Sony microsystem that is connected to computer without any problems.
So, my questions is: Can I use AKG 240s in this way too? Will it play loud enough? I am student and I cannot afford speaker amp...

Thank you very much and sorry for my bad English.

It isn't just about impedance, sensitivity of the 'phone plays a major role too. Since K240s sensitivity is relatively low (91 db SPL/mW), I think a headphone amp will definitely help a lot although you can still use it unamped (than you have to turn it really loud). If you do want to amp it, you can get a cheap CMoy (from here or ebay) which is quite cheap (as low as $30 or lower)

Note: Don't get a speaker amp (a.k.a. power amp) or you will destroy your headphone.
