if this sort of post isn't allowed, please lock/delete/ban/kill.

i need to replace my Grado SR-60s because they are worn the hell out. I want to get some phones for semi-portable use. some closed folding ones would be nice, and i don't mind a slight degredation from the sound quality of the grados. heavy base is a must. these are going to be used with a rio karma.

However, that isn't the end of my ear-hugging needs. I also need some new earbuds as my ex71s stopped working plain . Again, these have to be base-heavy.

total, i want to spend around $150. I am not a true audiophile, so things that sound "good" will work fine as opposed to things that like they came from god's mouth.

and i will be listening to rap on these.

Thanks!

Welcome to Head-Fi! This kind of question is eactly what this forum is for.

Anyways, for bass, you should look into the Shure E2 and Sony V6/MDR-7506. The V6's/MDR-7506's are closed and are suppost to be very bass heavy, though bright and lacking in the midragne (just don't confuse the V6 with the V600 which are much worse). The E2's are suppost to be one of the most bass heavy IEM's with decent midrange but lacking highs. Neither of those require amps and should sound just fine straight out of your Rio Karma.

and someone is selling thier old v6 with comfy beyer pads on the sale forum for $60 something bucks right now, so snatch em - you'll have enough left over for some Ety ER6is, or even some used ER4ps.

Awesome, thanks for the welcome/replies. I was wondering, however, if there is something along the lines of a full headphone that folded up to a reasonable degree of portability that i could use the full $150 on (if it would be worth doing instead of getting 2 seperate solutions). While that would sacrifice some portability, i would like to explore all my options before purchasing. TIA.

I can confirm they do. I am listening to a pair of V7506's (brother of the V6) right now and they can be folded up into a pretty compact form. I think mine even came with a carrying bag, although I have never used it.
