I'm looking for advice on a hand-held container / bag to help with the above items.  I sorta cringe at man purses, I'm not really a metro-sexual type.  Would prefer something that's not too big.  No backpacks or briefcases.  Don't want a long strap either.  Something I can cram my stuff into before leaving for work and throw it on the front seat next to me.  Ideas?  Pics?

The REI Boarding Bag is a handy small all-around bag.  I have an earlier version and it's a nice small bag and useful for traveling.  No one will ever accuse you of being a metro-sexual/hipster/gadfly since the bag is 99% lacking in style. It has a long strap, but it can be easily removed with the knife you keep in your truck--leaving the short carry handle.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I looked at the REI website and this bag is a little bit bigger than I expected.

If you need something smaller, you can check out the ThinkTank Stuff It! or Little Stuff It!  ThinkTank makes great stuff and I use one of their pouches for carrying around a small sound recorder and accessories.  http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/stuff-it.aspx
