I have a ZVM and was wondering if I should do a straight trade for the Zune. What are the pros and cons of this trade? What exactly is protected video that the Zune cannot play?

Thanks

the Zune sounds much better than the ZVM and its menu is nicer and doesn't hang as much. it's also a bit thinner and the screen is .5" bigger.

ZVM is better for everything else. more codec support for audio (i think) and video. you don't need to buy a seperate dock for AV-out. browsing music is faster. you don't need software, but if you do, it has Mediamonkey support.

X2. That sums it up well! I do prefer the Zune interface to the ZVM, but that is up to you. The ZVM has more potential with an LOD and an amp (as of now, no one makes an LOD for the zune), so SQ will be better. The ZVM also has a custom EQ(which I love)....

I bought a Zune. I'm sure you saw my other thread about it.

Anyway, USPS screwed up (for like the 4th time this passes 2 months) and misrouted it so instead of 3 days I have to wait god only knows how long. I think when it gets here I will go out and "rent" (hehe) a ZVM from the store just just to make the comparison.

I'll post back my thoughts hopefully by next week.

Okay, it came in finally... After playing around with the Zune for a while I see no reason for me to go with the ZVM. I really like the casing that the Zune is made out of (wont scratch). The screen is nice and big. The battery life is fine (as long as I shut it down after use). The navigation is the best I've ever used. You dont even need a brain. Software is fine. You can indeed drag and drop. I never sync playlists anyway so I disable that. For some people I could see how the software could be a hassle but the only thing I do really is open it, drag files in, then click a button and done. You will be perfectly fine as long as you take good care of your music collection and are organized with you ID3 tags. You CAN use it as a portable hard drive recognized in windows. You have to do a little registry hack but a 10 yr old could figure it out.

I had some minor issues with video formats but I think I've ironed all that out. Sound is quite fantastic. Powers up my k240 and 770's fine without an amp. Some people have mentioned it's big but I don't think so at all. From the pictures online it looks big so maybe thats why people say that. When I opened the box it was a lot smaller than I'd expected actually. Really nice player I'm keeping it.

I had a creative zen micro and it ended up giving me problems with the actual jack. So after being screwed by that I kinda feel a little more comfortable giving my money to someone else.

Hmm...I really like the look and feel of the zune...but Ive been using creative for along time...like over 7yrs...

So I'd go with a zvm...but now that I have it...I hate out there is dust under the screen...Im not sure if that is possible with the zune...but if it isnt..im selling my zvm...

I know exactly what you mean by "dust under the screen". I don't think any will get into the zune though.

Hey I have one more thing I have noticed that I really like about the Zune . Whenever I play a video it saves the position I am at. I can watch one video, then go watch another one, and another, and another, then I can go play mp3's, then I can turn the thing off, and ALWAYS, it allows me to play every video at exactly where I left off when I go back to them. That's really cool because I have a lot of long documentaries, videos, and lectures I am putting on.

I'm not sure if the other players have that feature. If they do too then cool!
