Need advice on which Ultrasone

I am on the lookout for a new pair of headphones.

I am drawn towards my first ever pair of Ultrasones.

I will be driving them using a Heed Canamp.

Any advice one which model to pair with my amp.

Go straight for the PROline 750.

My philosophy is to go to the top without stopping in between. I think it saves money in the long run.

schalldämpfer se that you own hd 650 and proline... currently driving my 650 with imod+hornet, but thinking the sound might be a bit basheavy. been looking at the ultrasone sometime now... also think that the hd 650 is a bit to big. how is the different between these babies on sound signature and size/look.

and sry for off topic =) ; but I'll say as schall.. go for the top. thats what I'v done all the time (triple.fi and hd650)... and soon proline 2500 I think. (not to mention imod+hornet)

Hearing is believing, no matter what the outcome will be. You have to find out for yourself. Headroom is one opinion and there are many many more out there. Imo they underrated that hp, but that's just my opinion, mostly I guess because I just love them

I'm not the right person to give you advice though because of that. I am biased haha! Haven't heard the 650's so can't say nothing about them. Heard the 2500's but choose the 750 because I wanted them to be closed.. Never regretted my purchase.
If I remember well, the Heedamp will drive them properly.

And PickWick, if I may feel so free to ask: why do you plan on selling the ed9 when you like it so much?

Then you should go for the Edition 9

You arent only one who finds Headrooms review confusing. My proline 750 is a great can and there is not a single hint of harsnhess or sibilance, absolutely none! Either their was busted, or mine is, (in positive way

) or they had hard time finding the sweetspot on the head, with S-Logic headphones the placement on head is extremely critical.

They are not as comfortable as my beyerdynamic dt770s. I am also selling my grado gs1000s and my ra-1/ac because they are not as comfortable as my beyers.

Ultrasones do not work universally well for everyone.
Many here would totally agree with headroom's evaluation.
Why did you decide to go with Ultrasones in first place, there are may others, less contradicting headphones around? Take Denon AH-D2000, for instance, same price, better comfort, work just fine unamped, killer sound, and not that many negative reviews, if any at all.

I once bought the Beyerdynamic DT n831 based on Headroom's evaluation. A year later their evaluation of the headphone had changed completely. Unfortunately for me, their later evaluation coincided with mine. Headroom generally evaluate Grado's badly and they consider the K701 to be the best exisiting headphone. Bottom line, not everyone agree with Headroom

But I do agree, the D2000 is a killer headphone, very good value. It does however lack something I found in my Edition 9, midrange bite or perhaps presence?

The D2000 is a bit too polite and/or polished IMO, this may be a good reason to look for Ultrasones?

The price difference was too much for me to jump to Edition 9's. As far as I know, they use the same drivers, so I'll be just content with thinking that my other equipment isn't good enough to utilize the full potential of an Edition 9.

As for the HD-650 and 750 comparison...
The 650 certainly has more bass, and since I got used to it, I currently feel that the 750 is lacking in that department. But we'll see how that changes. After all, the 750 is still burning in, but I see some good potential here.

There is much more high energy with the Ultrasone. To the point where it bothered me right out of the box, but now it's curbed under control.

And in the pictures, the Ultrasone looked pretty small, but in actuality, they are quite big. Not as big as the Sennheiser, but still quite something. But I would say they are still portable.

I agree with Lamprologus. I own a pair of D5000 and a pair of Edition 9. Both headphones are very nice and i can live with both forlong time but if you compare them listening one right after the other you can hear a big difference in the signature of the sound. In an immediate comparsion the D5000 bass sound kind of bloated (IMO) compared to the Edition 9 and cover over the midrange (specially voices) but if you listen just to the D5000 that effect is not so detectable.

In my opinion the Edition 9 are more detailed, analytical, dynamic, with tighter bass and bigger soundstage.

I used to have the HD650 with the Equinox cable and compared thier bass against the D5000. The later won by far and the HD650 are gone.

Sorry I have to fight with you again. Any Denon can perform as drastically different depending on a user as an Ultrasone. You have seen my and boomana's comments.
