I do a lot of traveling for my job and I'm considering investing in noise cancelling headphones for plane rides and also just to unwind with it at the end of the day. I checked other posts in the forum but some of my criteria is a bit different. What I hope to listen to about 60-70% of the time with noise cancelling headphones will be primarily, Classic Rock, Jazz, Acoustic, Classical, Blues (pretty much anything before the 80's).  I'll reserve hip hop and Metal for my workouts- so I'm not looking for any bass heavy headphones.

If I could break up my preferences they would fall under
Sound Quality/Isolation - 70%
Comfort 30%

Not to big on aesthetics as I'm not trying to look fly and I understand there are opportunity costs when comfort and sound are two factors.  I'm also not interested in any in ear buds and I'm not a big fan of Bose, Sony, Skull Candy, Monster, Soul....

I appreciate it if you guys can help me out on this one.

whats the reason for you not to consider earphones? They isolate well enough for commutes without the pressure you feel and the possible sound distortion that you get with noise cancelling headphones.

My suggestion if you insist on noise cancelling is to look at products from abel planet. They have a large selection of noise cancelling headphones and the ones ive tried cancelled noise fairly well. Theyre also pretty bassy though, so they may not be the best choice.

The soul by ludacris line is also on sale. theyre fashion headphones but the SL300 is noise cancelling and currently under 100. I dont remember how good the noise cancelling is but the sound is acceptable for 100 dollars.
