I've got a few sets of buds I use but have yet to really find any I like.

So I was thinking what can I find for about $50 in an over-ear headphone?

Will mostly be using with my LG V10 phone.

Would like good volume, good imaging and soundstage, neutral sound (no super bass or such).  Audiophile oriented sound.

Do not want a 1/4" plug as that will need an adapter and put stress on the phone jack.

Here's a few I found on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-419-Headphones-Black/dp/B005N8W1MO/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1471484519&sr=1-1&keywords=headphones&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_36%3A4500-5500

https://www.amazon.com/AKG-K52-Headphones/dp/B019EACGSU/ref=sr_1_24?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1471484519&sr=1-24&keywords=headphones&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_36%3A4500-5500

https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-H850-Over---ear-Headphones/dp/B013J8DROA/ref=sr_1_36?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1471484571&sr=1-36&keywords=headphones&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_36%3A4500-5500

do any of these wireless/plugin type headphones sound good?

https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Audition-Comfortable-Headphones-lightweight/dp/B00J0BXPD4/ref=sr_1_2?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1471484519&sr=1-2&keywords=headphones&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_36%3A4500-5500

Other options/vendors, etc??

thanks in advance!!

Check out the InnerFidelity channel on youtube and Z Reviews

they review budget cans as well, and i think some of what you  mentioned they cover. Or on their blogs.

I remember Mono Price being on many experts' lists for budget cans.

Check New Egg, they have some good deals ATM

Let us know what you get.

I'd consider the Aurvana Live headphones, they are fantastic and in that price range. More on the warmer side and lush side and not really audiophile tuning tuning.

The Yamaha HPH-200 are also great and can be found occasionally around. Amazing SQ for the price.

Should i Buy samson 850 or go with 950 to pair with fiio m3.. M3 has flat sound and 850 are on the bright side so i am afraid i might end up with very faded lows.. though i am tempted by the clarity that 850 offer.. or otherwise recommend me on other set of cans for m3.. i want to build a cheap audio setup for travel and while travelling i tend to lose or break my equipment so not going above 100$ for a set of cans for m3

Proven studio quality headphones at a bargain price:>
https://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1471684210&sr=1-1&keywords=akg+k240

And to answer one of your questions, open headphones generally have better soundstage
and more natural sound than closed headphones.

Well, congratulations on not dithering too much about your decision.

Hope you enjoy the headphones (I've not heard them).

Perhaps you'll let us know your thoughts on their SQ.

So I got the cans mentioned above, LUXpro OEH-10.

First the build seems very solid.  They are substantial.  Heavy.  In other words, not flimsy.  Shouldn't be easy to break.

The cord is the perfect length, that is if you want to plug it in at home and drive to work.  Huge bundle of cord, not good for sound quality as this provides a inductive choke.

They seem comfortable, but i haven't listened for a long period of time yet.  They may be a tad heavy after time and they squeeze a tad too much.

They sound OK.  Not too in engaging.  But there is really no time on them yet.  They may need to loosen up.

I'm listening on a LG V10.  I'm using JetAudio app.

PLENTY of volume.  Plenty of bass.

What really makes these cans exciting is the DSP Bongiovi.  This works wonders and the cans sound many times better.  I still need to burn these in because they sound stiff, but I think on the lower priced headgear, the DSP may be the ticket.  Without this, I really need to use the EQ.

I'll have to report back after these have had some time to burn in and give my impressions.

I'm an old-time pure-analog guy, so DSP and equalizers seem somewhat unholy to me.  But I think in the digital domain, all bets are off.  The rules are different.

Get a pair of:

https://www.amazon.com/Koss-155475-SportaPro-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B00001P505/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472537334&sr=8-1&keywords=sportapro

and a pair of:

https://www.amazon.com/Koss-KSC75-Portable-Stereophone-Headphones/dp/B0006B486K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472537379&sr=8-1&keywords=koss+ksc75

and two pair of:

https://www.amazon.com/Parts-Express-Stereo-Lightweight-Headphones/dp/B0002KQZJS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472537414&sr=8-1&keywords=parts+express+headband

Detach the drivers from original headbands and place them on the PE headbands.

End result: sonic bliss!

Total cost: $50 free prime shipping.

I don't know about the sound quality of LG phones, but I'm listening with a Fiio X5 1st gen and SQ is awesome!

So the LyxPro OEH-10 is most likely the Somic MH463 v2 (Somic is the company that makes the headphones, and sells them under their brand). LyxPro is packaged a little differently and comes with two types of earpads (Somic MH463 v1 came with simulated leather, v2 came with velour). There's a lengthy thread about them on head-fi here:

Reviews here:

The first company I am aware of that rebranded the MH463 was iFrogz, with their Aura HD (which was the v1 with the 50mm drivers and simulated leather pads):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ABANMFY

You can get the MH463 v2 in slightly different dress (virtually no branding) from Status Audio with their OB-1:
