Hey,
I'm trying to decide on getting either the shure se 110 or head direct RE2. I can get either for about the same price and I'm reading good/bad things about both so I'm a bit confused. I'm planning on running these from my Cowon S9 and I mostly listen to trance, house, and metal. Any suggestions?

^ x 2. However, out of the 2 you have listed, the RE2's are the better sounding pair. SE110's are very bland & muddy.

What kind of music do you guys listen to with the ne-7ms?

I've got the SE110's and I would say they're suited to your kind of music. In any case, Shure have a dreadful reputation for cable failure, but a good reputation for customer service. Even with that said, my money would still go on a pair of UE's... but their customer service suck apparently.

I have better stuff than the 7's so I don't listen to them much anymore but anything from melodic death metal to prog metal to classical. They're pretty good all arounders.

Trance with se110? oh man that sound like suicide. I think se110 is expensive upgrade from stock earbuds (much more detail and SQ from stock earbuds). I cancel my se110 order right after I try my friend's (bass is almost nonexistance for basshead). Instead i go for bundle RE2+fiio for $49, check their website. Best deal ever (the bass is not that great either but it is lot more cheaper). Trance and House? well super.fi 5 EB is out from your budget, you might want to check out EP-630.

My sources are in my sig. It's usually either my D2 or Sony A818 though. I use my IE8's with my D2 and PFE's with my Sony. My ipod's battery life is so pathetic I can barely stand to use it.

The D2 is supposed to have virtually the same SQ as the S9.

I would strongly advise vs the SE series for those genres, at least until the SE530's.

7's + Comply's are probably your best option, but Apple Dual Driver IEMS are good too off ebay. $35 for the used or returned ones and a lot of people like them vs the NE-7M's.

Somewhat aggree, but once you had se530 (which is great IEM) you will overkill your music with house and trance genre (my opinion only).

I had a good deal for the shures I was originally considering but now since everyone here is calling them crap I guess I have more time, lol. So far the RE2s are looking pretty attractive, especially since I'm gonna get an amp down the line for my Grado 325is.
