Hi,

In bed for watching movies or a Simpsons dvd I use a pair of M.O.S. Ixos DJ1001 cans. I got them for £60 new a few years back and the quality is excellent. They've been abused a lot; I fall asleep in them, twist them around, leave them on my floor and have occasionally trodden on them.

They still function like they're brand new. However a bit of the headband broke today and I fear alas, they're on their last legs.

I was therefore looking for a new pair of cans, that have to be closed and full sized and very durable. Budget is roughly around the £50 mark though I'm flexible (but don't want anything silly).

Being durable my first thoughts were to avoid the hi-fi/audiophile range and head straight to the DJ aisles instead.

Do you guys have any suggestions please? Thanks in advance.

Good look trying to break the German Maestro 8.35D monitors. In general look for closed studio headphones... They are really built to take tons of abuse generally.

Cheers for the suggestions, but looking at the German site, they are way over budget.

Can you guys recommend any more please?

Some of the older Sennheiser cans can take quite a beating. My HD414s have been thrown around, and beat to hell. They vanished during a move, and a few month ago while moving some boxes in storage, I found them in a box of tools, the wires entangled with saws and drills, to make matters worse the whole box was water damaged and falling apart. I took em home and cleaned them up, they worked fine. From radio to storage, those things took a beating.

Go for studio monitor cans, they are intended for more abuse then DJ cans. Such as my Senns, they have a stock steel cable.

What do you guys reckon on these :

Sennheiser HD212 Pro
Audio Technica ATH-PRO5 V DJ (love AT, though always thought they're a bit more delicate)
Koss PRO3AA
Technics RP-F550 Monitor Headphones

All these are available in the UK.

Edit - double post. Sorry guys.

The Sony MDR-V6 might be just what you're looking for. Before I found this place, I owned a pair for years and took them everywhere. I also think they sound better than what they're usually given credit for here.

DT48.. Bullet proof.. One owner ran over his with a car. Only cosmetic damage.. Headphone still worked great. I Can find the review for the non believers.. Nuts and bolts.. All metal design.. I doubt any headphone does a better job at protecting the driver.. Better then the HP1/2 in that area according to a MOT who recabled both. All metal housing.. about 1/4 inches thick.. Looks like giant magnets.. Thats where the drivers are incased.. Can be found used for around 100 or so USD.
