Need a good Linux-proof soundcard (thinking of Xonar essence STX) and headphones for music production

Hello,

I have a somewhat difficult request. First let me describe my current setup:

I have a desktop PC running Linux and a laptop running Windows 7 (where I make music, mostly with FL Studio), the laptop has an external soundcard (Phonic FireFly 302), which is connected to the PC's audio input (right now a horrible onboard solution).

I want to buy a new soundcard for the PC and the best still affordable one I've found so far was Xonar Essence ST(X). The problem is, it has no SPDIF input and the FireFly hasn't the best analog output, which is why I'd like to use SPDIF for an unaltered sound. Xonar HDAV 1.3 Deluxe comes in mind, but it's said to be of slightly worse sound quality and it has no headphone amp. The soundard must have a line-in, line-out for speakers and headphones. I would prefer PCI-E or USB and it shouldn't be too expensive. Since I'm planning to buy a new laptop, maybe already in the end of this or the beginnig of the next year and it probably won't have firewire, a USB card I could exchange between the PC and the laptop would be welcomed. It just has to work fine with Linux and work on the PC after being reconnected, without having to reboot. I thought about STU, but it costs twise as much as STX and I couldn't find if it's supported in Linux.

I also need good headphones, I wasn't thinking of giving out too much money after I heard good stuff about Superlux (was thinking of HD681(B)), but the music shop support guy suggested me Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro (I believe, this ones might need a headphone amp after all). Is it much better for music production? I make electronic music and am a bass addict. It's important for me that movies and music in not the best quality still sound decent with them, since I won't only use them for production. Maybe you could suggest another ones.
