Nearlink is better than Bluetooth in every way, but due to one thing it might be the next Betamax....Made In China.

Unfortunately the US has most high consumer spending nations in its back pocket so anything made in China has a hard time getting off the ground outside of the mainland.

Sounds like the technology is proprietary to Huawei.
No, NearLink is not proprietary to Huawei:
  • Development: Huawei led the development of NearLink, but it was a collaborative effort between Huawei and more than 300 other enterprises and institutions.
  • Alliance: The NearLink Alliance, which leads the development of NearLink, has over 430 members, including chip design, modules, testing, and terminal solutions.

All Iknow is if you have Blietooth enabled on your phone you should be worried about exploits and from mch closer than China.
Everything else is of secondary consideration. If not it should be.

BlueBorne Vulnerabilities Impact Amazon Echo and Google Home

'Armis Labs revealed a new attack vector endangering major mobile, desktop, and IoT operating systems, including Android, iOS, Windows, and Linux, and the devices using them. The new vector is dubbed “BlueBorne,” as it can spread through the air (airborne) and attack devices via Bluetooth. Armis has also disclosed eight related zero-day vulnerabilities, four of which are classified as critical. BlueBorne allows attackers to take control of devices, access corporate data and networks, penetrate secure “air-gapped” networks, and spread malware laterally to adjacent devices. Armis reported these vulnerabilities to the responsible actors, and is working with them as patches are being identified and released."

Google is your friend. Not everyone within 50 feet is and you don't know what they know about you already.
Idle hands and all that they do quietly while patiently waiting a mystery.

But might look something like this running on one of many laptops and you can't understand why so many to look at Facebook...

2017 11-year old shows how BT is vulnerable to hacks.

My info is u to date and the threat much more so today than in 2017.

I don't know anyone who uses Linux and in 25 years have met one person who knew what FreeBSD was but OD'd before I could get him interested in building a box.

Very few who have a computer, many who use a phone but don't do routine maintenance or that there is such a thing and I don't even try to talk to them about any of it anymore.

And bots? Now you just got weird on then.

But I tell them al about this forum I go to where people have gold plated Walkman and they couldn't careless about any of it.

I don't know anyone who uses Linux

Well I use Linux and have done so for at least the last 30 years exclusively.

I don't know anyone who doesn't use Linux that knows what they are talking about when it comes to Linux. 99.999% of non-Linux users have no idea what modern Linux is like as they are still stuck on the command line DIY'ish Linux of 1992.

Oh, ,so you're part of the dumb down the userbase crowd that thinks the command line should be replaced by a GUI.

You probably already know me then.

I have never taken a computer course of any kind and taught myself to use every computer and OS I have ever touched from an Appleii to Solaris.

I am not for dumbing down the userbase any more than that idea is to begin with.

I wrote a Beginners Tutorial with the target audience of a Windows user who had never used the command line and walked them from installation of the FreeBSD Base System to a Fluxbox desktop using ports for 3rd party programs.

When they asked why I used port it was simple. It was what I taught myself to use in 2005 and never occurred to me not to. It did very well, so they stole it.

Building A FreeBSD Desktop From Scratch

A Beginners Tutorial with a target audience of someone who has never used the commandline that takes you from installation of the FreeBSD Base System to a fully functional Fluxbox Window Manager FreeBSD desktop using ports to compile third party programs.

As for Linux Elitism?

Not everyone who uses Linux can use BSD, but everyone who uses BSD can use Linux.

Actually I'm not part of any crowd, I just use Linux.

My thoughts concern myself not others.

Congratulations on writing a tutorial, everyone's very proud of you.
