Nano select button has less feedback then the buttons around the click wheel?

I noticed that my nano's select button on the click wheel has less force feedback compared to the rest of buttons(play, forward, back, menu). I can hardly feel the click when pressing the select button. The other buttons around the click wheel has more feedback. .

I am wondering if that's normal on the nano or if it's just with mine? I have the regular 4g ipod and it's select button feel's more responsive then my nano.

I've read a few posts with the same thing.. menu button provides less click than the other buttons. Seems like a design flaw..

since my first ipod was a 3g - with a center select button/pad that was practically impossible to use sometimes - I haven't noticed any problem with the nano.

I do think the new wheel behaves more reliably than the others I've used, which is a pleasant surprise. Hopefully there will be less slipping just past the artist I want and having trouble getting back that one row.

There was news weeks (or months) back that Apple was breaking ties with the original company that designed the touchwheel/clickwheel. Nano may feature an original Apple in-house design.

(IIRC, correct me if I'm wrong!)

You are correct, this has even been confirmed through nano destruction

First thing I noticed upon using the nano. Also wondered if the button was just a little bit messed up, because it doesn't feel like it's 'clicking' when you press it - it just sort of barely mashes down a little bit. No solid depression like my mini (or even, as you say, the other nano wheel buttons). Glad to see others with same observation.

I had a 4Gen iPod in which the select button actually stopped working - it permanently lost its tactile feel and pretty much felt like it was depressed all the time

. You had to SQEEZE IT real hard just to make selections. Got it replaced at Apple store, still under warranty. Love the Apple warranty (if you live close enough to an Apple store).

Same thing with mine, the select button is "softer" the the wheel buttons.

Well it turns out the protective layer of film on the nano is the culprit! Duh!

Removing the film really made a difference. The select button now feels reponsive like my 4g ipod. I didn't think it would make a difference since my 4g ipod had the same film around the scroll wheel and I didnt want to risk removing the seal since i'm anal about scratching this baby up but luckily the protective film seals back on. I'll leave it on until the cases come out. I'm glad it's just the film and not my nano that's the problem with the select button.

For those who are having the same problem is this with the protective film still on? Maybe i wouldnt feel dumb for posting this problem

Yes, I do still have mine on and have yet to remove it.
