Hi,

I've been a fan of Minidisc for many years now, having started out with the ubiquitable JE500 home deck and the MZR30 portable.

Over the years i've upgraded and am currently using the JA30ES at home and have upgraded the MZR30 initially to an MZR91 then a Sharp MT88 and most recently an MZR900.

Now a funny thing happened yesterday. In my eagerness to leave work (isn't it odd how a wave of relief washes over you when your shift ends) I stupidly forgot to pick up my MZR900 and MX200 from my desk

So.... in desperation I dug out my old MZR30 that has lain forlorn and almost forgotten in my room for the past 3 years or so. I charged it up and gave it whirl. I plugged in my MZ500s and....

MY GOD!!!.... i'd completely forgotten how this baby sounds. The headamp on it is much much better than that on my current MZR900. Seems to have much better dynamics and is clearer, almost as if a veil had been lifted. It only runs for 20hrs continuous if my memory serves me well.

A stark reminder that "Not all that glitters is gold". I think I shall be having some serious consideration about maybe going back to this rig on a permanent basis.

what are the stats for the amp on the MZR30

The amp on the MZR30 is listed as 5mW + 5mW according to www.minidisc.org

This is the same as the MZR900 that I currently use but the sound is so much cleaner.

Just checked with my manual, it really is 5+5mW. Also dug out my R30, my first ever MD device, ca. early '97.

First surprise - The battery, although the unit spent at least two years dormant, was still half full.
Second surprise - This baby drives HD600s to levels beyond loud! And it sounds great (possibly a tad harsh)! How could I ever forget?!

The funny thing is, I have the feeling of having used and owned this unit for AGES, although I jumped on a R50 in early 99 already, which I sold again after getting my iPod exactly one year ago.
