Here's a link to the original thread:
http://www4.head-fi.org/forums/showt...threadid=12636

Here's how it works:

When you get a box, swap for as many CDs as you want. The
only thing we ask is that you send it on with AT LEAST 1 more disk than it came with. So even if you didn't take one out, think about adding one in for next time. Remember, this is the honor system so ask yourself what your made of. Unlike a pyramid scheme, there is no guarantee of anything other than you will have to pay for shipping the box to the next guy unless you live close enough to deliver it in person. We don't even promise the box will get bigger, we're just hoping. Please post to the Head-Fi Thread about any treasures you pulled out of the box. Also, please mark the sheet with the number of discs you took, the number you added, and the total count you are
shipping on.
You young guys that have fewer CDs than the box came with, can pass it on with the same number (even swap).

New Members: where they get added. The keeper of the list pretty much desides where new members will get put on the lists, but here are the guidelines I am going by: New members are added to the VERY END of one list, the end of the FIRST PASS on another list, and somewhat regionally on the others. The idea is to get them ANY box as
soon as possible, but not push back someone who has been waiting longer and still keep it spread out so no one has two boxes at once.
When a box reaches the 50 mark, it will be split into 2 boxes
and the Mystery Box List will be split into 2 lists. Once it makes it
through the first list, it will start at the top of the second list.
Hopefully it/they will keep growing.

Right now, where at 50 cds per box, and I'm thinking of splitting it into 4 boxes. New members are still welcome! How do you guys think this should work? I'm going to let Box2 be seen by everyone before deciding. What if we set up a system where we have "groups?" Each group would be about 6 or 7 people, and would get their own box. After a group has seen the box, they would switch boxes with another group. What do you guys think of that?

Another issue that has been brought up: shipping. I had a member tell me that the latest box cost $13 to ship. Would you guys be opposed to shipping the boxes Media Mail? It takes a bit longer, but is much cheaper.

Next, remember, that the boxes should be kept for 3 or 4 days, a week at max. I know its hard to go through the cds, but we do want to let others have a shot at the box! Let me know if you have extenuating circumstances, and for some reason can't ship the box on time.

Finally, please, please let me know when/where you are shipping the boxes, and when you've recieved it.

Mystery box e-mail: mystery_box@myrealbox.com

This is has been great fun, and I hope to see you guys more!

New members should e-mail the above address.

Where is the Mystery Box and why is no one posting about it?

BTW andrzej, you are doing an excellent job

I started something similar in another forum and they thank you all for the idea!
Here's something to think about: how about a card with your swaps listing favorite tracks etc. so that auditioning can go a little faster?

I just sent the box on to Mr. PD yesterday.
It was my second time with the box (was first on the list). The first time I was really impressed with the quality of the CDs. There were at least 10 that I enjoyed, I only took 4 and put in 5 pretty good chioces. But this second time around there wasn't anything to my liking, I still added a disc. There is quite a variety of music in there, country, soundtracks, samplers, classical, older rock but nothing that just jumped out and screamed, "take me".

I agree!

millerdog, was it you to start this in one of the minidisc forums?

Read the first post all the way through.

I got the box today. I have already scored my old favorite from cassette. Meat Loaf- Bat Out of Hell. My wife grabbed up a Celine Dion cd. I discovered a group called Everything that I am going to hang on to their cd titled Supernatural.

I've got more listening to do. I'll post more later.

I have seen the box and it was good. Box #2 that is.

It is now winging it's way across the Pacific to Hawaii.

As I mentioned earlier I grabbed Meat Loaf, and Everything. I also snagged a Merle Haggard cd that is chock full of his oldies but goodies. I did snag a classical cd since I am just starting to explore classical music. I also grabbed up the only SACD cd in the box. It's called Far More Drums by Robert Hohner. It's kinda cool stuff that is just wild through our multi-channel big time home theatre setup. The lady of the house wanted a Celine Dion cd (this woman does listen to Cradle of Filth so I don't know why she wanted this) and a cd called Message in a Bottle. I think it's a sound track.

This has been a great experience. Thanks to AudioRedneck and andrzejpw who are the past and present keepers of the box. Without you guys this would not have flown as smoothly has it has. I really appreciate the work you guys have put into this project.

I agree with Mr.PD. Box two is a mess
frown.gif
Samplers, cds with no liner notes singles, etc. Don't if they were traded in or just added as extras, but I think it should go back to Mystery Box central
frown.gif

I have: ten cds with no liner notes, two samplers and two singles.
IMO, not in the original spirit of the box.
Let me know what you guys think. If not, I'll just send it along.

I know when I had the box I added a couple of the samplers as extras with the thought that some fan may enjoy having a CD of their favorite artist that few others have. The liner notes don't add much IMO and I do not mind taking CDs without them.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention guys. I'll send an e-mail out later(we've added a few people), but what do you guys think of sampler cds, etc? Should they be allowed?

On another note, please make sure to send those liners along with the cds. . .

I put a sample cd in box 1 as an extra. I included the slip box that the sample came in. I'm not even sure if I added it to the count of that box. I think samples are good.

I agree that the liners should be included. Singles should not.
