Oh man, if wife already approves, then be on the friendlier side and have her participate in the decision =] (aesthetics and all).

You have plenty of marvelous choices, just research for a bid and use the opportunity as well as possible to see EVERYTHING you can have (people won't just tell you what's possible, probably only the current favorites).

I would use it to buy her something. You will feel so much better about yourself.

haaa, what a load. . . .

Well at least buy her something to listen with so you can be side by side.

haaa, what a load. . .

Well I am sure someone will have a good idea or many for you and save you some bucks.

To use with what equipment. Depending on your equipment, $2k may be overkill.

Please post you current set up, music preferences and anything else to help for suggestions.

And a little research never hurt anyone

MaloS is right in saying that people will probably only recommend what is popular, so keep your eye out for stuff. But you should without a doubt check out the Balanced β22 from rockhopper audio, the GS-X from headamp, and the Zana Deux by Eddie Current. All three are outstanding.

If you're really serious...

... and not just trying to create a "feeding frenzy" of responses...

... SACDLover's and XNothingPoetic's reponses were the only correct responses you've received.

Define your current / planned set up - or you will have a very difficult time defining the optimum solution.

Without that you're just guessing.

I have a Mhdt Laboratory Paradisea Dac, Beyerdynamic DT990, and a
UD-10 USB Audio Converter by Trends with a computer as a source.
And I like the Blues.

I would comb through some of the posts here. There are so many opinions but if you read enough filtering through the information I think that would be of great help. I know it can seem daunting at first but it will distill after a while.

Also, what do you like in music and how do you like to hear it. Some people like all the details while others like to be wrapped up in the sound. Some like it warm, cool or totally, as much as possible, neutral. Some like a more distant sound and some like to be right on the stage. So many variables but there are amps that can satisfy.

echo123 can you make it to CanJam? There you will get the opportunity to test EVERYTHING and then some more.

You can strech the money by buying used gear. Most of the people here take really good care of their stuff. Good luck.

i remember a photo i saw: a FS post for a nice nearly new motorcycle. the caption said: only ridden home from the dealer. apparently "do whatever the ****** you want" is not to be taken literally.

if youare in the area of florida, there will be plenty of tube goodness in a month or so.

Go to VSAC in Vancouver WA. in May, that is the tube holy grail meet. And it runs from may 24-26th. I am going. Saturday only though. Wife wants to do other things.

I say a Silver Raptor and take the left over change and take the Mrs. to Cancun for an extended weekend which will net the most gain in the long run:wink:

Good luck on whatever your choice is and happy listening:)
