The shells on my right W60 monitor broke.

The IEMs are out of warranty. Does anyone have any experience:

- Getting Westone to replace shells? How much did it cost? I've read reports that Westone doesn't repair things - they just give you a 50% discount coupon on another new pair. Can someone confirm?

- Are there other places that will do shell repair? How much would they be?

-Should I open it further and do a teardown? Has anyone done a teardown of Westone IEMs before?

Other than the shell damage, do they work? You could try using Bondic to rebuild the shell. It's a liquid plastic welder. I've used it to repair a damaged JH Roxanne as well as add layers to a CIEM.

Yes, they work, however the right side that's broken now has always had volume issues. About two months ago, before the shell was broken, the right side's volume became lower throughout the entire frequency range compared to the left side. I tried changing cables, cleaning the sound port of earwax, and changing audio sources.

So I'm wondering if maybe there is some kind of internal obstruction and if this cracked shell may be a good opportunity to open the entire thing up and poke around.

What happened is probably from westone poor build quality. Either the mmcx connector was faulty and moved around too much in the plastic and weakened the plastic or the plastic near that area had a fault, I would guess it was the plastic as that part of the housing may have had a defect from the mold as it is most defined part. As for the volume this would be because the driver was not glued well enough to the sound pipe part(part the cuff's of the drivers connect to) and came loose. If you want to get it open I may have a replacement housing part, they made two types of shells though so not sure which you have. I can send you some pictures of the shells so you can tell where the locks are, these do not just pop open like older um pro's and older w series.

I have the same iem and the same problem. I searched this and got to this page. The exact same thing happened to the shell on my left ear, but they still work. How did you fix it?

I was in China 3 months ago and bought a set of Westone shells off of TaoBao. I searched for "Westone W60 壳" and someone was selling a shell pair. I delicately coated the audio port with silicone sealant to prevent audio leakage before dropping all the internals into the shell. Works great.

The W60 gen 1 and gen 2 shells are a bit different on the outside, but the internals are the exact same dimensions and fit into both shells perfectly. In fact, the shell I got was for the W40 because it came with a two-port audio nozzle rather than the three-port nozzle that the W60 uses, so I think a W40 shell would work as well.
