I got the sennheiser momentum headphones less than 2 years ago. Already the chord without volume control broke within the first year. I replaced it with the chord with volume control. It broke just like the last one when I was on the bus today. I use these headphones every day. I'm tired of the momentums. They don't even sound that great. All the reviews for them were good like a year ago so that's why I got them. They feel cheap though.  How's that new v-moda model? I have been interested in those. I just need something to blast my hardcore punk and metal and occasional slowcore. The V-moda looks ******* badass, like military equipment or something. All that metal and kevlar looks sweet. Sennheiser Momentum look like they're for a retirement home. What's better, the v-moda xs or the v-moda m-100?

I dunno. The music I listen to generally isn't that well produced. In terms of build quality and appearance, the v-moda xs has me sold. I'm itching to buy them. My concern is that I once had the sennheiser amperior and the on ear aspect really hurt my ears after just an hour. Also, I prefer a little bit more of a spacious sound. The Sennheiser Momentum is not fun to listen to. I always grab for my hd 650s as soon as I get home. I didn't care for the amperior though, not only because it was painful on my ears, but it's sound was bright and "fun", but didn't have an immersive spacious sound so I could really get that visceral sensation when I listen to the music. What I loved about the Sennheiser Amperior though was the tightness of the sound. It all sounded so controlled and exciting to listen to. I hate to imagine that I prefer a colored sound to something that makes the music sounds like how it was meant to sound though. By the reviews it looks like the v-moda has a very balanced sound though, unlike the v-moda m-100, and the only drawback is the soundstage. I doubt I'm going to get a very good deal on soundstage in any closed portable headphones I go for. So I guess I'm going to have to compromise. I am really concerned about on ear discomfort though.

On ears I find always hurts after a while no matter what you do. Don't evern buy it when people say they can wear for hours. They must have killed all the nerves in their ears...
 
Buy another set of full size. It's not like the size difference really is that much. Not like you can shove on ears in your pants when you aren't using them, not without getting funny looks.

One of the xs's weaknesses (according to many reviewers such as innerfidelity and lachlanlikesathing) is a "moderate" lack of bass speed.
You might like the onkyo es fc300 and donscorpio dolphin (this has a little soundstage mod in the asian headphone thread btw and you might like the over ear design)

I'm not surprised you didn't like the momentums, given your taste in music. lack of treble and slow bass would make the momentum pretty lackluster for that, IMO. If I were you, I would go for the M100. Soundstage on it is very good for a closed portable. If you find the comfort bad, you could always get the XL memory foam pads for it. It is fast and good for rock

You might also want to check NAD Viso HP50 at that price, not the most fun headphones to listen to maybe, but great overall, with decent build, not so good looks as V-Moda but possibly better sound. I found HP50 to be better than Momentum, tho some people would disagree, if you can try them out somwehere, could be a deal

This looks very interesting. It's on innerfidelity's wall of fame which is good. I just think the side and look of that thing is ridiculously bad. At that price I would probably go for the v-moda.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to pricey. I'm pushing it a **** load at 300. I would be safe at 200, but i require saving for a little while to even reach my goat of 300. I need to eat! But yeah, those yamaha headphones look like beats. Yuck. I'm sure they sound alright though.

I hear innerfidelity talking about the v-moda as if they were good headphones for electronic music. I don't listen to any electronic music.Same problem with that yamaha headphone. I just don't know how comfortable I am going for headphones with a colored sound. I don't want to go with something like the sennheiser momentum again, because it was so damn boring. So maybe a little coloration is natural to like? Innerfidelity said that it's a good headphone for contemporary music, but he seemed to be pretty damn genre specific when he said that.
