Ha All,

This is my story so far.

I have an ER4P which I used for 18 months and enjoyed it so much. Around March this year, I yearn for an upgrade and started visiting Head-Fi.

I read about Triple-Fi 10Pro which caught my interest and read about "Spyro" & "IpodPj" discussions and experiences which influence me to purchase a Triple.Fi 10Pro. Great Sound, anyway I don't really know how describe SQ(novice).

Then I continue reading threads on Head-Fi and it seems that everyone has moved to SE530/E500. 90% of Headfiers prefer E500 to Triple.Fi. Even "Spyro" exchanged his Triple.Fi for E500. I felt bad & I couldn't return my Triple.Fi b/c I live in UK & bought from US. After months of delibration I decided to go for the SE530

When it arrived this morning, I was a bit excited, but when I tried it I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I sound was so sharp, no bass, no soundstage, no thing really. I thought may be something is wrong with my 1st gen Nano Rockbox (Flac). Then I tried my Triple.Fi then SE530. The Sound from my Triple.Fi is much better than SE530. May be I wrong, but this is my opinion.

IMHO Triple.Fi is far far better than SE530. No Conparision. Sending back my SE530 tomorrow.

Any opinion, advice will be appreciated.

Well if that's how you feel then other people's opinions dont really matter. I wouldn't be so quick to return it tho. Maybe try burning it in? I heard there's no burn-in for e500/se530 but some people swears otherwise.

There is no way that the Shures should sound anything like what you are describing here. Either they are defective or you don't have a good seal and need to try a variety of tips to see which give you the best sound.

I tried the SE530 and found them to have plenty of bass. Try switching the tips/foams around to make sure you have a good seal and see how they sound. If you still don't like them, but it's best to return them.

Sounds like you may have a bad pair out of box because the differences in SQ are not huge by any means. In no way do E530's sound "bad." But I notice they do need to be inserted pretty far. Mine get pretty flush to my ears.

The main reason I switched to E530's from Triple Fi's was the ergonomics/fit. It was driving me batty getting the left one to stay in my ear. But I don't seem to have this problem at all with Super Fi's (using smallest flange). Now I'm wondering if I didn't give the smallest flange enough time with TFP (cause previously I was always "medium" size).

Anyway, main differences to me:

E530: Better with rock because drums seem to slam a little bit harder, in a good way obviously. Also, I think the forward midrange makes acoustic music sound slightly better. I don't listen to much vocal music.

TFP: Sound slightly better with just about every other type of music. The bass/lows don't seem to slam as hard but it sounds more textured to me (a preference thing). The soundstage is a little bigger (almost 3D). It's a marvel how they did this IMHO. A really open and airy sound. I can't think anything sounds quite like it.

This sounds contradictory but I thought the highs on the SE530 were a pinch brighter than TFP however TFP revealed more details.

It took me a week or so to really like the TFP's whereas I liked the SE530 right out of the box (coming from E4's).

Someday I would like to get TFP's again. Why not, huh? I bought E4's and ER4's twice. This hobby is maddening.....

Chuckwe, make sure you get the Shures inserted well. If they slip out a little bit you'll lose all the bass. You may need to experiment with the various tips Shure provides, in order to get a good fit.

If you're certain you're getting a good fit--you know you have them in right when you get a small "pop" feeling when pulling them out--then your SE530s are defective.

This sounds like you didn't have a good seal. Saying the Shure's don't have bass is... just plain wrong.

you should try either the black foamies or the triple tri-thingies(forgot the name). for me, those work best and the bass is one of the best for iems.

My quest forces me to try the Triple.Fi and the upcoming Westone 3!!!

For now, the Ety ER4 with proper equalization (or amplification - I'm using the Supermacro LE right now) trounce the E500.

The Triple.fi 10 is better than the E500 in my opinion, but it's not that much better. I think you might have a problem with the seal. The two IEMs are are basically the same in sound quality, one emphasize on midrange, while the other treble. It just a matter of preference.
