Well this is a quick review for some. I got these off of AudioCubes.com, which I wouldn't recommend buying from since they take so long shipping from Japan. I know it's not their fault but more of the US customs that took a week to clear. Anyways, I have only another pair of Koss PortaPro's so these are in comparison to them along with a standard cmoy amp. Okay, well I open up the box these came in and wow, they are massive, it's like having subs on your ears. I sort of look goofy with them on but I don't really care. These are probably the most comfortable pair of headphones I have ever had on the top part fits your head automatically with no need for adjustment. The cushions are super soft and makes it extra comfortable. My ears are rather large too but theres plenty of room inside for them to fit with more to spare. The outsides are plastic except for the top portion it feels like rubber with maybe metal underneath? They look pretty plain but if you want something that stands out get those blue Audio-Technicas
Well, here's the main reason I got them. I play 5 string bass guitar and I needed something I could use while practicing, my portapro's would distort when playing the low B string, actually I think it was the plastic rattling. I know thats hard to manipulate considering I've heard 12's that can't handle that low, but I wanted to try something else. The portapro's are decent for playing music with on my computer but if I amp it even at low volumes it hurts my ears it gets so loud, I think this is more to do with the open design.
So onto the Audio-Technicas, I plugged these in unamped into my bass amp and instantly was amazed. It can handle even the bass turned up max and totally killing my B-string. Fantastic, highs are really good, not quite as bright as the portapros but it still made a great impact. I then listened to some music on my computer unamped and that was really nice too, I had to bump the bass up more than my normal setting but it still could handle everything I threw at it. Amped the thing sounds the best though, bass and midrange are great with no need to boost my eq, highs aren't as sharp as I would like them but then again these are closed phones. I have only had them for a day so I didn't get too much testing on these but I would say they are the best closed headphones I've heard under 100 dollars and I would recommend them to any musician especially bass players.
