Hello all,
I forgot I had these...dug them out of my closet from my mom's a while back. They still worked but the ear pads were disintegrating. I finally got some new pads....these cans are now 11 years old!
I remember they were my first "good" pair of headphones. I eventually got to hearing some Sony V600s and realizing that the Bose Headphones had too much bass. I stopped using them for a long while, and thus began my weird little craze with buying tons of headphones.
The thing is, years later and many Audio Technica's, Sennheisers, Koss, and Sony headphones now owned, listening to these Bose Triport OE now...I have to admit, they don't sound bad at all. In fact, they have a very sharp, clear sound, although with a lot of bass. The bass doesn't seem to bleed over to the mids though. It's just big and fat and thunderous on the bass end. But these have a good amount of soundstage, especially with drums, which seem to really resonate outside the headphones themselves. Detail is crystal clear, and I swear I can even hear individual string players in orchestra recordings. Rhythm guitars in rock and metal have plenty of crunch.
I SWEAR I remember these being more of a fart cannon phone back in the day, but right now, using them, they sound great honestly. Not even kind of neutral, and it's obvious these have some sort of proprietary EQing going on, but as far as being an enjoyable musical experience, these do well. Very warm, full sound!
Is it possible that years of use has caused these headphones to finally refine and sound good, or do I just hear different now?
Anyone else still have these? These were shat on pretty heavily back in the day by audiophiles. But hey, they still work after 11 years! How's that for build quality?
