I have many tubes ... will have to figure wich one I prefer.

ATM, I use Tung-Sol 2C51 as input and Centron 6528a as output.

Thoses tubes can't power my Denon D5000 (bass distord) but on my MPX3, I use 6SN7GT as input and 2 x TungSol 5687 as output and they can power D5000 without problem. I guess the 5687 are more powerfull tubes than 6528a.

Dragon is more on the energic side compared to my mpx3. It's more easy to relax with mpx3 ... with dragon I am more electrified.

Will roll somes tubes to see what happend ...

In fact most 6sn7 type of tubes don't have that much output power at all. ranging from 1 to 5 watts or so.

wgta has more power and is hardly turned on...older tubes burn faster, like the w types and burn much faster since they burn 40% or so over their capacity!

6sn7 is therefor most used as driver tube for larger more powerfull tubes liek the 300B!

Something is wrong if the dragon cant run the D5000. I heard it a summer or so ago in Maryland, and it was AWESOME. I did not hear it with the D5000, but a whole stack of grados. the D5000 is harder to drive than a grado, but it took the grados and they played VERY well.

I would make triple sure that the dragon is set up right. With all the tube rolling options, things can be confusing if you just got it. The 2 amps should both have NO problems with the D5000, but they will probably have different sound characteristics.

ooh, and welcome to team singlepower

Nice. Now we know who got the SP Dragon. A great amp you have!!! Wonder if Laine misses his amp or not?

The 6528 has WAAAAAY more power than a 6SN7 - literally 10 times. That thing has to be able to drive the Denon.

nice little tower of power.....

looks like the dragon should be on top... give it some room to breath.... :)

Cheers,

I need somes infos about tubes.

Low ohms headphones requires more current (AC) ?
High ohms headphones requires more voltage (DC) ?

What is the role of the driver tube and the output tubes. Somes rules to follow ?

I see two open sockets .... where are the driver stage tubes?

I tried:

Output : Centron 6528a
Driver : 2c51 (with adapter) / 6sn7 / 5687 (with adapter)

Same problems

With the 5998 in output with the 2c51 as driver, they drive my Denon properly.

Socket 1 (front) is gain socket 1.
Socket 2-3 (middle) is gain (stage 2)
Socket 4-5 (back) are output socket.

I see in instruction it's for K1000 and K340 ...but no clue if I can use it for regular headphone (or volume control will step too much with the second gain ??).

Sound impressions compared to the MPX3?

How long was your wait?
