Basically, the stereo connector on the cable is broken after I lent them out. Thanks, mummy!
 
I'm thinking about buying a replacement cable and fixing them as a DIY project. I'm not sure what's involved or how hard it'll be but are there any recommendation for cables available in Canada?

Just replace the jack not the whole cable. You can find them pretty much anywhere. Search eBay or amazon for 3.5mm male audio jack if you can't find them locally.
