My mum say's I need a razor...

I use a Mach 3, works great for me. The Quattro I have isn't nearly as good.

Also, shaving cream is for wusses. Just shave right after taking a hot shower, thats all you need.

I have never once in my life paid for a razor. Gillete and Schtick are always giving out free razors online, just gotta know where to look. Slickdeals or Fatwallet will keep you updated.

While looking direcly at the space between her nose and lips, tell your "mum" she needs a razor ..that will end the conversation.

X2 on the Fusion. One of the best safety razors I've ever used.

How can the school say that you can't have facial hair? that's crazy...

I have had a beard for going on two years now, just shave my neck and little spots here and there to keep it neat. I thought of shaving it all off but I don't want to deal with the comments from friends and family..."you look so different"...

I'll shave one day I'm sure, just not now...

I find that anything over 3 blades can snag my facial hair and cause a good amount of discomfort.

Agreed. Tried the 4x, 5x blades, and just kept getting snags. Plan to switch though to the double safety edge blade like the offerings from mekur someday.

It's extremely difficult to cut yourself with a Gillette Fusion. Avoid the "Power" version...it's a waste of money and the handle isn't as solid.

I went back to a double-edged safety a few years ago. They really give the best shave and you save hundreds on the blades. Seriously. A 4 pack of Fusion blades is close to $20 USD in the stores. You can get them about $1.60/each on eBay, but that's still pricey. The finest double edged blades rarely run more than $5.00 for 10.

As for the razor, I prefer an old Gillette Fatboy:

You can find them used in the $25-$50 range. Look at eBay and your local second hand and antique stores should have some. To sterilize one, boil it for about 20 minutes. Just toss it in a pot of water on the stove and boil it. Then scrub it with cleaner and an old toothbrush, and it'll look like new. After cleaning, soak it in mineral oil for 24 hours to lubricate it. This gets you one of the best razors ever made.

I use shaving soap and a brush. Brushes aren't cheap, but they last forever if cared for. Soap cakes are cheap, though. I prefer them greatly to shaving cream. Shaving cream is too heavy and gunks up the razor. And a brush is more fun, anyway.

You should also look into using something to close your pores after shaving. They open up and you'll get irritated if you don't do anything to close them up. The least expensive way is to splash with cold water after a shave. There are a number of lotions that will do this, too. I use straight rubbing alcohol. It stings, but closes everything up and keeps you from getting any kind of infection. Then I'll apply aftershave after that.

Oh, and it was mentioned earlier, but Badger & Blade and shavemyface.com are terrific. Nice people there.

Electric beard shaver. Braun or Philips, depending which design you like more. If you are dark haired and skinned and have a lot of beard growth, razors definetly defend their place for ultimately smooth and bristless chin, but normal electric shavers are otherwise as good as you can get, and VERY easy and carefree to use (you need a miracle to damage you skin with them).

Personally, I would grow a smooth goatee beard with "soul patch" and mustache to myself because I like the style, but my beard growth is minimal, "teenager" type. And I'm in the middle of my twenties already...

I used some old two blade Gillette for the longest time (none of those "moisturizing" strips either). I only had to upgrade, because the drug store out here doesn't carry the blades. I just bought whatever they had on sale (Schick something or other). So long as I used shaving cream, I never managed to cut myself for anything other than someone surprising me in the bathroom while I was shaving.

Thankfully, my growth in facial hair is nice and slow.

After reading some of the reply's in this thread, it's not hard to tell that some of you younger guys have not learned the value of a quality wet shave.

I like to get my day started with a face scrub followed by a quality shave cream (Art of Shaving) applied with a badger haired brush. I generally use a Gillett sensor for shaving, rinse with a cold splash of water when done and use a nice moisturizer afterwards finish things off..... Refreshing.
