Thank you for sharing, really enjoyed the read. The ingenuity aspect does not surprise me. Reminded me a bit of an old Top Gear episode where they went to Vietnam, rented scooters, and when they broke down, the scooters were successfully repaired at a shop that didn't even have the correct parts.
I, too, need to go back to the motherland some day.
Not sure if it was intentional, but I chuckled when I saw the first link to Modern Talking. They are HUGE among the Vietnamese community, at least among the older folks in California. By extension, I am a fan of their music too.
