Have had it for two years and recently its been stopping in the middle of songs and then moving on to the next one for absolutely no reason.
Also, at the end of a random song there will be a quick 2 second bit from another song, then the song will end.
Basically its just starting to act a little nuts.
Is there anything I can do or is the HD doomed?

Am I the only one who thinks APPLE purposefully manufactures these things to die at about 1 1/2-2 years?

I would make a copy of whatever you want to save from the iPod, try a restore using iTunes, and then run scandisk on the iPod.

Everything I have on my IPOD is on my desktop-so no worries there.
How do i go about doing a "restore"?

make sure you have a external power charger, at least that is what Apple suggests and I have tried a restore without a externla power charger.

If you have iTunes already installed or after installing iTunes. Hook the iPod up to the PC and either start iTunes or let the iPod start iTunes. Click on the iPod in the devices section of iTunes and one of the options is to do a restore. iTunes will walk you through the steps.

My old ipod had this problem also. To solve it, i first reformated to FAT -32, using quick format. then i did the restore on iTunes. Last, i used my firewire cable to transfer everything to the ipod, and voila, it worked.

What does reformatting to FAT-32 do exactly, why is it needed and how do you go about doing it?
Sorry for the ignorance here-dont know much about these things.

I just had the same issues but with mac. So far it seems to have worked.

For pc you want to go into itunes and uncheck the box that says to open itunes when ipod is connected

Then close itunes

Unplug ipod and plug back into pc

Go to my computer

Right click on the ipod drive and choose format

You will have option to do quick or full I would do full but it takes a while your choice

After complete unplug ipod from pc

Open itunes then plug ipod back in

Select the ipod on the left side once it connects

You sjhould have an option to restore click restore

After complete re sync your library ipod should be good as new.

Unfortunately I restored already, without having reformatting before hand.
Can I go back and reformat now?
Now, when I attach my ipod to my computer it itunes sayd its syncing with the ipod-then maybe a second or two later it says "syncing complete" but nothing was synced and I cant seem to get the ipod to stay connected to itunes to get any of the music on.
Should I just rty what you offered above?

I don't understand is the music still on you ipod?

In my case the restore alone did not fix the skipping issue so I formatted but something sounds off

There is a tab on top that asks what you want synced make sure the box is checked to sync your whole library or check the stuff you want synced and unplug replug see what happens if nothing try the format but don't delete itunes itself you will need it
