Hello!

Seems like a good idea to make my first thread about my audiophile headphone journey so far. These are opinions, and other peoples experiences may vary.

Ancillary equipment:

MacBook Pro (MBP) running Spotify Premium, iTunes, and Amarra. the MBP is of the mid-2010 variety.
Emotiva XDA-2 connected to MacBook Pro
Oppo HA-2 connected to iPhone
Peachtree Nova connected to Apple TV Gen 2 (ATV2).
Emotiva XMC-1 connected to Oppo 103 and Apple TV Gen 3 (ATV3)

When listening to music, I mostly stream Spotify. I have some flac files, but I can never seem to get Amarra to work correctly. I'll be scoring this forum to get that figured out 4sure.

Headphones:

B&W P5 - Impressed with these headphones since the first day I tried them out in the Apple store. I've used the primarily at my office desk for the last two years. The clamping force is a bit much for my head after a few hours, and I actually wore them backward for the first few months until I saw the "R" and "L" lol. Once these headphones are in the right spot on yours ears, the sound is impressive out of an iPhone, and it blocks outside noise well.

Bose AE2W - I primarily use these at work when I am working at a bench or have to frequently move around. Love them. The clamping force is not too much, can wear for hours, long battery life, easy to use, and most importantly sound great. I'm kind of lazy sometimes and don't lock them in my desk each day as I should, so I'm surprised they have not gotten stolen yet.

Sennhieser HD600 - I was actually disappointed by this headphone for a long time. They sounded pretty weak coming out of my Macbook Pro (mid-2010), iPhone 6S+, and even my Emotiva XDA-2. I had all but given up on them, but one day I tried them out of my Peachtree Nova in the living room using the Apple TV to stream Spotify Premium (at "highest quality") and watch TV. Boy, what a difference! The  HD600's sounded great! Lesson - people are not joking when they say you need proper amplification and at least decent source material for these. I tried them connected to the Oppo HA-2, and they also sounded great.

Oppo PM-3 - I occasionally use this at my office desk, but mostly at home. This might be my favorite headphone I've owned so far. I actually haven't gotten to use it much because my fiancee likes it so much and keeps taking it to work. Very very clear sounding. The build quality and finish make it feel like a very high end product. They sound good straight from the iPhone, and better out of the Oppo HA-2.

Grado RS1e - I just purchased these. I know they are not for everyone, but I have pined after these for about a year. Love the design. I can't believe how light they are. Listening impressions coming soon, but one of the tracks I listed to actually brought me to tears it sounded so good.

Thanks for reading!

Hi @Noman74656! Welcome to Head-Fi!

You've got some great cans in your collection, and I'm glad the HD 600's turned around for you. They were one of my first sets of headphones when getting into Head-Fi, and I still love putting them on my head when I have time to just listen. Add in the PM-3 and the P5's, and some of your other components like the HA-2 (a great portable DAC/amp)... You're all set!
