Took me 7 hours total, but they're finished.

*notice my HD414 pads in the center - just finished dying them dk. brown last night (they're too black though, I wanted a color closer to the wenge*

You may be wondering about the white streaks in the cups. I didn't want these to look like every other Grado woody, so my grandfather helped me sand them down with some grooves that gives them a sort of used, vintage appearance. The camera can't really do justice to how they look in person - the wenge is very dark and has much more gloss to them in reality.

The sound is amazing, to sum it up nicely

Hope you guys like it. Best wishes.

At the moment, I must politely say no. Perhaps later?

Nice.. they look really amazing. How do they sound (specifically)?

Thanks.

I haven't had much time to listen to them yet, but the 2 major improvements I have noticed are in bass and soundstage. The cups, combined with the taped bowls in particular, produce a desirable amount of kick/impact and resonance in the bass; this is what I have really been looking for since I first bought the SR225's. The soundstage is a good bit wider; the signature remains very forward but I do hear extension across both sides of my head. The rational behind increased soundstage lies in the length/depth of the cups. This is really why I chose to a deep woody - to reap more of the benefits from the mod.

The treble remains sparkling, just how I like it. On one song I noticed the presentation was slightly more forward (think flats vs. bowls), but this effect seems to have been an anomaly from the rest of my listening.

The only setback for this pair is that my grandfather insisted we use wood glue to meld the plastic and wenge together. I very much doubt I will ever be able to separate the two from each other to do a recable. Then again, I don't see a recable making near as much of an impact on the signature.

Are these deeper cups than your typical Reference series grado?

I haven't seen an RS1/2 in real life, but my cups appear to be deeper than either of those.

Thanks so much for the kind words everyone. This had been a time-consuming mod but I can say with absolute certainty that it is very much worth the effort. Take care.

Those look great dude.

IMO, deeper cups definitely make a difference. Especially in the two aspects that you pointed out, soundstage and bass.

They're a little deeper then mine!

Thanks bro, now to pair these cans with that M^3

Believe it or not, I actually had the cups even deeper at first. They probably would have stuck out a good 5 inches from my head O_o.
