I woke up around 10 am, checked my front door, and there sat a box from the USPS. I brought it in and ripped it open to find my brand spankin' new Gilmore Lite inside. Naturally, I pretty much sprinted up to my bedroom, disconnected the Rega Ear, and hooked up the Lite in its place.
Impressions (thus far):
- Holy crap is it tiny! I knew it wasn't very big (having seen pictures and hearing other people's impressions), but geez. I think the power supply is bigger!
- The background is absolutely dead silent. With the Rega Ear, I'd always here radio stations and other nonsense in the background, and I'd always believed that it was because my room was just a cesspool of EMI. Now I know that the Rega Ear, in fact, was to blame. That, or the Lite has EMI filtering that is light years beyond the Ear.
- While I don't have any meaningful impressions of the sound, I can say that, in what little time I've spent with it, it provides a far more neutral presentation than the Ear does. This, of course, is with the DT880, as I haven't tried the HD580 with it yet.
All-in-all, I'm very pleased.
