First of all I would like to say hello to everyone in Head-fi, I've been a long time lurker for the past 2 years but never took the time to register.

I remember my first real headphone purchase, it was a pair of ER-4Ps for my ipod. I would read for hours trying to figure out what portable, and affordable set of headphones I could find that would be right for me. Whenever I first plugged in these headphones and put on my favorite Tool song it was like magic. I could hear each instrument with clarity. It was easy for me to just relax and enjoy music for hours at a time.

After getting my first taste of quality, I was ready for more. I began researching full sized headphones, amps, dacs, and read a lot of reviews. Because I don't have a huge disposable income, I needed to get an idea of what would satisfy me the most without having that itching feeling in the back of your head wanting you to try out other amps/headphone setups.

I finally settled on Headroom's Balanced DAC/Amp package, with Sennheiser's HD650 headphones. I chose the HD650's because I heard they have a livelier bass, and listening to a lot of rock/metal I figured I needed some strong headphones in the bass category.

Well that's my story, if you're wondering how I was lucky enough to get that package, its a graduation/birthday present and because I have a full paid scholarship to my college (and I have the best mom in the world!

).

My headphones will be arriving tomorrow via fedex, anything I should expect? Also, I plan on driving the amp through my computer. It has a soundblaster x-fi soundcard and seems to be pretty good. Any suggestions/feedback is appreciated.

If you're running Windows XP on your computer, I'd recommend using an ASIO driver. I use MediaMonkey for managing & playing my audio via ASIO4All. See this post for more info.

Welcome to Head-fi and congratulations on your wonderful setup! Your intro was much like mine....I lurked for a couple of years after I started with the Ipod and that led me on the journey...and my first stop was the Ety's also...the ER-4P and I remember clearly the first day I plugged those IEMs in and hit play maybe five years ago now-amazing, so amazing that I wanted to share it with everyone but alas, no way to do that with IEMs, you know... then I needed the p-s adapter for it and on and on...a wonderful journey it is has been. I still have those and they still are amazing to me-isolation, clarity and such faithful reproduction that still can't be beat. Ahhh, thanks for the memories and sorry for the rant...but...

Welcome and I look forward to your impressions!
