Anybody have any opinion on this?

The rubber portion of the chord which leads into the blue transducer barrel has sort of fallen back, to expose the bare wire. I can see the wire through the "grating" which joins the chord and the barrel.

Is this worth worrying about?

Hmmm.. Could you elaborate?

Is it the whole cable that has slid down? Or is it just the rubber sheath that requires movement?

Perhaps you can PM him and see what he thinks. I've sought out his help before when I had a cracked transducer, and I don't want to appear as though I treat my Etymotics badly.

The rubber sheath on mine was the only thing that slid down. I usually grabbed the pod on the cord with my left hand and then put my middle finger on the back of the cord and my thumb nail on the opposite side and slowly went up the cord until the cord covered the exposed area. Hopefully, that gives you some idea of what I did, but if it doesn't I will explain further.

Hi helento and welcome to Head-Fi

I think yours are normal--the cord is meant to be detachable at that point.

i just re-read the first post and realised that mine have a different problem...

on mine the wrapping has actually torn and exposed the wire, rather than just receding. so i can't just pull it up again.

damn. i'll call etymotic.

I have tried to push it back, but it won't stay. Right plug is better.

In that case then you should contact Etymotic as it should go back when pushed in.

helento1: Woah. Sexy macro mode on your camera. What model?

Guys, my problem is different to helento1's. My rubber sheath has receded behind the "flexible grating" (part that joins the chord and the barrel), and I can see the wire through the grating.

RVD: I get what you are saying, and have tried it. It works, but a few minutes later, bang, it's back like it was.

Damn, I wish I didn't care so much about these damn earphones!!!

HappymaN: That sucks. I usually had to do it to mine every one to two days. I know it can get very irritating to do and I know it is even worse to just leave it go. I never contacted Etymotic on this, but I have seen this problem a few times on this board so it would probably be worth contacting them.
