Back in May, my good buddy swt61 built himself a killer audio stand. It was elegant in its simplicity and I knew I could do something similar though not necessarily to his quality of workmanship. I had the tools necessary except for one key piece of equipment - a drill press. I've been meaning to get myself one for quite some time so I figured this was a good excuse as any.

Since I had to foot for drill press I wanted to keep the material costs to an absolute minimum. In my basement, I eyed a set of old Ikea shelves that I knew I would never use again. They were solid pine made of finger jointed glued together pieces. I figured gluing two of these together would offer a stable hefty platform for my gear. Maybe not the optimal wood choice but I didn't have to pay a dime for it.

I also happened to have enough spikes as well as some screws that would work to both attach the legs and receive the spikes from the next shelf.

I had a number of challenges along the way but thanks to some help from Steve and some head scratching, I actually got it finished. The stand looks nice from any distance but up close you can see that I need to work on my finishing skills. All in all however, I'm pleased with it.

By the way, the color of my wall is an eggplant not the weird shade shown in my pic below. Also, the legs are more red than what shows. I suspended my Central Station from the bottom of the shelf above it.

I know the wood was gotten from "" Ikea"" via ad hoc actions , but would that kind of pine be your choice normally , if you could choose from any wood ? And are certain woods better for holding components than others ( absorb of vibrations or whatever ) ?

I think it turned out fantastic Scott! The warrior05 signature Diablo color scheme really works.
I also think the Eggplant walls are very cool. As can be seen in my pics, I'm not one for boring White walls either.
I'm a big fan of repurposing existing items, and you get an A+ for that. It may look Red and Black, but it's very Green as well.
