I talked to him on the phone today and tried to convince him to use his wonderful SR225 more often (he barely uses them). Although he has given them a second chance since I started pestering him about it, he told me that the main reason why he didn't like them in the first place was because they felt really uncomfortable on him. He said they pressed on his ears too much. I told him about the different pads that Grado now offers (his SR225 came stock with the flats around ten years ago) and showed him examples on headphone.com.
He needs new pads anyway since his are deteriorating. He was interested in the bowls but I told him that I wasn't sure if they would be more comfortable or not, since I have read that they are also supra-aural instead of circum-aural.
I am ordering a pair of the soft comfies from headphone.com right now for him to try out, but are there any other suggestions out there? I don't think that he would want to spend a ton of money on those c-pads (?) or whatever they're called, but I have a feeling that he might prefer something that goes around the ear instead of resting over it.
I'm looking for quick answers because I want to get these to him for Christmas.
This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Head-Fi.org, you're my only hope.
