I was listening to my CMoy (OPA2277PA), it has dual 9v batts. I'va had the batts for weeks and weeks. For the past week the voltage has been dropping a lot. Tonight I was measuring the voltage being sent to the V+ via ALPS switch & GND pins. it was steadily dropping to 4 to 3v as I was measuring it.

my DMM probe slipped slightly & i dont know what it touched, and i heard nothing coming from the amp. I turned off the amp and back on, still nothing but the LED was lit dimly. I removed the batts and they measured 5.06v & 5.23v.

I then noticed a slight ozone smell (aka burned electronics) I was in a shock!! thinking "How can two very drained 9v batts fry my amp/op-amp!!"

I put in fresh 9v's and it still works...but it seems to be at 1/2 gain...??!!

before this happened when I was amping my AV710, the vol knob was about 1/3 and it was pretty loud. but now it seems to have to goto 2/3's for similar loudness, IIRC. It also seems to have more sibilance at this loudness.

There is diffidently more treble/sibilance and less bass!

Could be DC offset and thus the opamps will heat up.

Could you scan the bottom of the PCB and the top with a scanner or do some macro shots and post them here?
