My Chemical Romance

There CD is pretty good, I have never been a big punk emo fan but for some reason I like there stuff. Kinda weird though that their lead singer looks freaking SCARY, sort of reminds me of the singer from AFI in a way.

Just curious.

I would not call them emo. Maybe emo cut with hard-ish punk.

They have only two albums, I'd start with "Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge".

I don't really like to recommend stuff based on liking other bands. If you like good music and are open minded, give it a shot. However, if you like The Mars Volta, you may like them.

I really don't like them too much. Screaming "I'm not okaaaaaaaaay" 20,000 times gets kinday annoying.

They're really pretty different from the Mars Volta - MCR tends to be short, poppy, and shallow, while Mars Volta is excruciatingly long and pedantic.

In my humble opinion.

*goes off to listen to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for the billionth time*

The truth has been spoken.

It would be insulting to The Mars Volta's name to say they are even remotely close to as good.

The musicians of TMV are actually fantastic, phenominal players. They represent some of the best tallents of their field. My Chemical Romance just plain sucks!

And yes, they are an "emo" band, according to most. They are another one of those bands that write songs about how terrible their lives are because their mothers told them to clean their rooms.

Great band! I love the album. On a hunch, I bought it the first week it came out. Ever since then, had I not heard it then and had just been subjected to the MTV/Under Pressure Cover/Whinehog teenage crap, I would've never bought it. I'm glad I own the album. The first one? My brother's glad I gave it to him.

Unfortunately, MCR is judged primarily on the face of "I'm Not Okay" which is by far the worst song they've ever made and probably solely recorded for airplay. I remember hearing it for the the first time (along with the rest of "Three Cheers") and thinking how wildly incongruent it was alongside all their other songs.

Listen to "I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love," or even the rest of Three Cheers. Much different and better than the abovementioned trainwreck.

No idea about their Under Pressure cover, but I do enjoy the band.

(I'd call them emoesque punk, FWIW.)

I wouldn't call them emo at all, actually. I think that word is tossed around way too much. I would call them an old school punk/rock type of band with more complexity and dark drama in their songs. I think "I'm Not Okay" is not a very good representation of the rest of their music. I kept waiting for them to release "Thank you for the Venom" as I thought that was a more accurate representation, but that didn't happen. Count that as one of the albums I have to listen to all the way through, btw.
