So, It was only DAYS after the 1 year warranty and the cable on one side of the earpieces broke.

The question is what to do about it?

Should I call Etymotic and ask for a replacement set after sending it back?

Have some head-fier recable the things?

My brother is an uber-broke college student *much less than me* and buying a used set for $50 is too much. I suggested that he might want to get a set of 616's or even my im716's from a retailer. He just loves the 6i's, and I just gave him a very nice CMoy w/ interconnect for christmas (his cable went out a wekk after).

SOOOOOOO...... what should I try - is there any Etymotic Reps that can give me some guidance?

Thanks one Behalf of my brother!

From everything i've heard, Ety will probably just warranty them. So, call 'em.

If that fails, it is possible to recable a 6i - I did mine with the cable from a pair of ibuds. My arm could be twisted into doing the same for someone else. Takes a steady hand, and a needly-thin soldering iron tip. And some 5/8" clear polyolefin heatshrink. I have all three.
