Hey friends.........

I'm going to reveal one of my little quirks if you haven't guessed already: I'm a list maker. I make tons of lists, some of which are complete nonsense and others which are extremely interesting (well i guess they're interesting to me).......one of my favorite lists that I do is on the first of the month I make a list of my 20 favorite pieces of music for that month....and I put it in order. The order is partially just my opinion but I also take into account my ipod activity. It's interesting to compare with my lists from 4 years ago. I suppose in a decade (if i continue doing this) i will be able to compile a list of 100 pieces or so and put them in order and say these are my favorite pieces of all time, in order.

Here's the list this month (number 1 being my favorite)
1.Mahler – Symphony No. 9
2.Mahler – Symphony No. 4
3.Brahms – Symphony No. 1
4.Brahms – Piano Concerto No. 2
5.Liszt – Piano Sonata
6.Rachmaninoff – Piano Concerto No. 2
7.Wagner – Tristan und Isolde: Prelude / Liebstodt
8.Chopin – Ballade No. 4
9.Beethoven – Piano Sonata No. 8
10.Mahler – Das Lied von der Erde
11.Mahler – Symphony No. 2
12.Schumann – Fantasiestucke for Piano
13.Mahler – Symphony No. 3
14.Sibelius – Symphony No. 2
15.Brahms – Symphony No. 3
16.Sibelius – Violin Concerto
17.Brahms – Symphony No. 4
18.Mahler – Symphony No. 6
19.Bach – Goldberg Variations
20.Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring

I really would love to start a trend where people make there own lists along with me....it's lots of fun I promise. Feel free to comment on my list. And PLEASE put up a list of your own

Dave,

I'm the same way! I'm always pondering my top 10 movies, songs, books, etc... In fact, I had recently thought about starting a thread in which those of us who use media players with play counts could list our top 25 songs. For some reason, like you, I find rankings and lists to be endless fun! In a few moments, I'll be back with my top 10 or 20 songs of the past month. Good idea, chap!

Okay, here is my top 20 from the past month, in order:

1)Hermanita (Aventura)
2)Heart Half Empty (Ty Herndon and Stephanie Bentley)
3)If You Could Read My Mind (Gordon Lightfoot)
4)Disarm (Smashing Pumpkins)
5)Whiskey Lullaby (Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss)
6)When You Come Back Down (Nickel Creek)
7)The Diary of Jane (Breaking Benjamin)
8)Some Memories Just Won’t Die (Marty Robbins)
9)Miles Away (Winger)
10)Darcy Farrow (John Denver)
11)Like a River to the Sea (Steve Wariner)
12)Seminole Wind (John Anderson)
13)Hey There, Delilah (Plain White Ts)
14)Here Without You (3 Doors Down)
15)Seasons of the Heart (John Denver)
16)They Rage On (Dan Seals)
17)That’s Another Song (Bryan White)
18)When the Children Cry (White Lion)
19)Restless (Alison Krauss and Union Station)
20)Tourniquet (Evanescence)
