I've been reading through alot of posts about the differences between these cans, and owning both the 300's and the 400's myself, I really can't hear much of a difference between them. The only differences so far are because the 300's are brand new and the 400's have about 100 hours on them, so obviously they're a little more burned-in.

I honestly think the only difference between the 300's and 400's is that one little silver accent piece and the fact that the 400's come with a case... is that worth the $5 extra, considering the 300's are only $7- to begin with? Depends on if you need the case, I guess.

I'm guessing that an in-line volume control on the 500's may be what causes them to sound very slightly different from the others. Being that I don't like volume controls or mute buttons on my headphones themselves, and the fact that I use an altoids tin to house my buds (so I don't need the case that comes with the 400's), I think the 300's represent an excellent value at around $8....

Anyone else concur or disagree?

I have the mx400, but they still don't sound much better than my regular earbud, I hope they sound better after a serious burn-in

There is a very slight difference between the MX500 and 300., if you're listening out for it.

On a cost/performance basis, my vote for the phones to get goes to the MX300.

Don't you mean the 400's and 500's? The 400's are the 300's with a case. The 500's add the volume thingie, which CAN affect the sound slightly.

hi everybody,mx300/400/500 made in southen China by a Japanness owned factory. As said above ,400/500 's driver are same, but 500's cord is better (not include volume control system),300's driver is worse. You may say 300/400/500 nearly same, but one thing I say: I bought mx 400 from New Egg (China) 1 month ago, today is the I first time I use 400 with Sony 7600GR radio($170),listen stereo FM radio programme, the sound it is much worse than Dengen 1101's (the radio will be sold in USA market ,at price about $70 ,China made),you know I modified it's amplifier,it's IC is normal,I just chang a few capacitors.
So if the source is better(not only the music, but also the amplifier ,the source just before cans ,you can see the difference, the difference is great, this is from my own experience.
400/500 nearly same, both better than 300,if the source is better enough. Thanks
