I just got a SA8001 SACD player. I will mostly be using this with redbook but would like to try out the SACD feature. I bought some SACDs:

Pixies: Surfer Rosa
Miles Davis: Kind of Blue
Dead Can Dance: Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Volodos Plays Liszt
Beethoven: Piano Trio: Op. 97 ("Archduke"); Piano Trio, Op. 1, No. 3 (Kempf)

I tried to find a copy of Beck's Sea Change on SACD (one of my favorite albums) but they seemed to be quite overpriced since it has been discontinued.

Any recommendations for "must have" SACDs (not just a must have album)?

I listen to basically anything but country/rap.

Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds
Rebecca Pidgeon - The Raven
Julia Fischer - Russian Violion Concertos
Susannah McCorkle - From Bessie to Brazil
Adiemus I - Songs of Sanctuary

Thanks for all the recommendations and the ink to the SACD mini reviews!

I will be using the SA8001 mostly, which is stereo. I do have an Oppo DV-980 hooked up to my 5.1 channel movie watching setup but I have never tried its SACD capabilities. I probably will do so but do most of my listening on headphones since my speakers setup isn't as good as my headphones setup(s).

I enjoyed Turandot in the Living Stereo collection.

I'm looking forward to actually sitting down and listening to the Living Stereo's Berlioz's Requiem soon...

One SACD I "cannot live without" would be Roxy Music's Avalon. There is nothing like it. And the SACD has an extra song not present on any cd versions.

Another really good one (if you're into the genre) is Alison Krauss & Union Station Live. It's OOP and very expensive to obtain but if you can find it's it's worth it.

Yes, I have that double SACD and the DVD version...very enjoyable to watch too.

I just checked...these go for $135+

Ouch, don't think I will be getting that one very soon.

Thanks to GreatDane generosity, I will now own a copy of Sea Change on SACD! What a nice guy. Thanks again GreatDane.

What a stunner! I snagged it from Amazon a few weeks ago and was mesmerized by the playing and the sound. Great disc.

Here are a few that I would recommend:

Thelonius Monk - 5 by Monk by 5

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman

Patricia Barber - Nightclub

Bill Evans - Moon Beams

Waltz for Debby too...

Leo Kottke - 6 and 12 String Guitar

Shostakovich Symphonies 5 and 9 - Valery Gergiev/St.Petersburg Kirov Orchestra

Dvorak Cello Concerto - Janos Starker/Dorati/LSO

Excellent! I have been wanting to buy some Thelonius Monk and Coltrane.

Maybe I better sell off some headphones to fund my new SACDs!
