I've accepted the fact that there are really no live recordings of them, so I'm now looking for something similar.

They seem to be mainly in the form of chamber music (Oblivion in particular) most times with a Harp, flute, some strings, etc.

I do have a rare Debussy chamber music album which has some similar works (instrumentally, but not as much musically).

The elder scrolls music has always been very adventurous, magical, emotional and oddly inspiring. Quite simply I can't get enough of it. His music also seems to be similar to Howard Shore's Lord of the Rings score. Very heroic at times with a hint of sadness, but uplifting and positive at the very same time. There are even hints of Vaughn Williams in his works as well.

What do you recommend along these lines? Please help me out here!

Well, Jeremy Soule has done a fair number of VGM scores, including Morrowind, Oblivion, Guild Wars, and Dungeon Siege. You might want to check out his other works to see if you like them.

One soundtrack you should check out is the Arcanum PC soundtrack by Ben Houge. The game's publisher, Sierra, has made the music freely available:

Sierra: Arcanum
