Both of these players seem to have reputations of being the "best bang for the buck" CDP in my price range. But which of the two is better???

i read a lot of praise on the e5(headfi) but have not heard either.

A knowledgeable friend has indicated to me that the E5 is better. I have never compared the E5 and 25.2, but can attest that the 25.2 is a very good player (I owned one)--and it can be had for about $200 less than an E5. Additionally, the 25.2 comes with conventional warranty/repair support.

I have the Esound but not heard the other. I would think the Esound would be better as you get a lot for your money.Jim.

I own both, without a doubt stock Eastland E5 is better than stock CD25.2 but.......

You can more easily and cheaply upgrade MH CD25.2 since it comes with newest Phillips laser transport and 24/192 Dac section, for a few hundred more in mods you can really boost the sound performance tremendously......see pix below system 1,2
