Has anyone ever listened closely to the music from the Maxis PC game The Sims? It's great - especially the "downtown" music from the "Hot Date" expansion, which is a sort of super laid-back big band jazz. There's also meditative piano stuff (build mode), upbeat orchestral pieces (buy mode), and sort of combo-style songs (neighborhood mode).

If you have the game, dig around in the folders 'til you find the one with all the music in it. They're encoded as ~192kbps mp3's, but they sound really well-recorded, IMO.

P.S. this is the original Sims, not The Sims 2.

Haha, yeah, most of the music from Maxis is good. Try SimCity 4, and Sims 2, too.

Can anyone recommend music that's similar? I've got some Miles Davis, Maynard Ferguson, Coltrane, Vince Guaraldi, and lots of Oscar Peterson, and I haven't found anything that I like quite as much as the Sims stuff. I really like the clarity of the recording. The warmth of the older stuff has its charm, but I also like the modern sound and style of this music.
