I am interested in finding and recognizing artist that are trying their best to help us. Lyrics that mean something, words worth reading and movies worth watching. Below is a starter list in which I have found great wisdom. No hate, Brittany Spears, "White Chicks"(I think that is what that crap was called), and no Stephen King! Unless of course you can explain how it has enlightened you. Post away, I need new material and it may show others that the stuff they have been using has merit outside of entertainment. I believe it was KRS One who called it Endutainment!

I got my set a year ago at Sim Lim Square 3rd floor, the 1st shop you see when you go up by escalator, the Name of the shop is Han Brother.
So far my experience with this shop is pleasent.
The price I paid is S$690, which was quite reasonable since most US retailers sell it for about US$450.
I was told that this was a special price by Senn singapore for the first 10 sets, which I don't know whether is was true (and I don't care).

I think a stand out movie for me is "Unforgiven". It does a briliant job of dispelling all the glamour of death and killing in all (western) movies. It is rarely mentioned, but I really think its one of the best movies I've ever seen. Everything is top notch, especially the dialogue.

Here's an example, this is right after the Schofield Kid has killed for the first time.

Bill Munny: Hell of a thing, killin' a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.
The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess he had it comin'.
Bill Munny: We all got it comin', kid.

i can see from your list that you like dystopias - but even if one could set aside history and imagine for a minute a parallel universe where hitler was only a trashy sci-fi author (norman spinrad plays with that idea in 'the iron dream') i find it hard to believe that you really find good intentions in "mein kampf".
believe me, not one of his intentions was "well-meant", let alone "good" - and it manifested just as it was planned.

on a lighter note, there are other dystopias in the vein of 1984 and brave new world that i can recommend:
ira levin's 'this perfect day' and philip k. dick's 'the man in the high castle'. the latter is set in the same universe as 'blade runner' ('do androids dream of electric sheep?'), where the nazis and japan have won wwII.

Some people think LOTR is allegory. The books were written in the 1950s, so to some people the ring represents nuclear power, maybe the Hobbits, Rohirrim, etc represent the free world while Mordor represents the USSR, etc.

Not too many of the music groups I listen to put out "meaningful" stuff, hard to find that kind of thing in electronica/trip-hop. I guess you could add Orbital if only for their Snivilisation CD, and maybe the Green Album.

i prefer music, literature, art that doesn't scream "I HAVE MEANING!" i find books such as those by Richard Bach to be trite pap that's far less deep than they make themselves out to be. pop philosophy, spirituality and "wisdom" is generally worthless.

"meaning" must be dug for, and when it's finally unearthed, it should be a personal treasure for which the search bears the significance, and the end is simply a trophy of the journey just completed.
