Exit Festival, Novi Sad, Serbia, July 4th - 7th (www.exitfest.org)
I spent two fantastic days & nights this weekend buzzing with my friends around the city and the fortress where the festival took place. Some 130 000 people visited the festival in four days.
"Gonna get myself connected..."
My personal favorites were Stereo MC`s. They had grrrreat show during the second night and the 25 - 30 000 dancing and swinging crowd absolutely loved it. The band was obviously delighted by the reaction from the audience. Although the intimacy of the indoor show for 5000 fans when I saw them first time a year and a half ago was more pronounced, this one was more impactfull.
"The time is now..."
Next evening we had an open birthday party with 45 000 people
for Moloko`s singer Roisine Murphy in their most exciting show ever (so they said). She was great on the stage - dancing and rolling all over the place, singing with her soft, sweet, silky voice.
Man, she was beautiful. A bit retro music overal, but we loved it nevertheless.
"Coz he `s a liar!!!"
"You like fast music?
YEEAAHHH...
Well, that`s what we`re here for!
(Bang, bang....)
This was how Henry Rollins and his band started their energetic gig. I`m not the biggist fan of his music, but the show was excellent. Some 15 000 crowd rocked through their furious set. At the press conference, Henry said that he loved the kindness of all the people he met and the positive spirit of the festival. He also said he would never forget how thoroughly he was searched by the police and the army during his ten minutes walk toward the stage. He said it with a smile on his face, though...
We also had a pleasure of watching Dirty Vegas. This was my first experinece with their music and I can safely say I was not dissapointed. They somehow reminded me of older Underworld and the singer said that Darren Emmerson, a very good friend of his, told him to tell us from the main stage that he had the best gig in a long time during his DJ set at the main DJ stage the night before....
I also loved the reggae stage, with all those Jamaican an local soundsystems spinning vinyls in front of couple of hundreds to couple of thousands people swinging around or sitting on tree stumps while catching breath for the comming concerts. An atmosphere of peace of mind and unity, that`s how it was there.
We also got to see the reggae legends Misty in Roots during the first night.
I was very keen on seeing Tricky, Roni Size and Chumbawamba but, unfortunatelly, I could make it only two out of four days this
year. But I saw my favorites again and now I just can`t stop the traffic in my mind....
