Multi channel headphones.

I meant that we have to downmix 5.1 audio with dolbyheadphone/srs trusurround etc... With 5.1 headphones you don't have to, it plays straight from the source.

With these you now have to upmixthem because there are too many drivers.

They were made for multichannel sound cards, specifically this one:
Razer Barracuda AC1 Sound Card Review - Overclockers Club

If you don't have one of their soundcards, or at least their funky adapter, you're out of luck - the headphones don't actually do any multichannel processing.

It says:

8 discrete drivers: 6 for mid-high frequency, 2 for bass

So it's not really 8 channel, its really 6.2 channel.

It says '6 channel analog inputs' on the Amazon page...

Oh, so it's 6.1 That's even more strange, for hifi 5.1 is the most common followed by 7.1. For PC speakers they don't really make 6.1 setups anymore.

Tru dat.

If movies were going to be in anything other than 5.1, it would most likely be 7.1, not 6.1.

.. you can't really make an odd number of channels in headphones.. or at least an odd number of drivers.. thats why it's 6.2..

In any case. If they made nice sounding surround sound headphones, I would probably be interested in a pair... not for music, but for watching movies and playing games. I wonder when or if a solution will be available.

Oh crap, my bad. It's a 5.1 headphone. They put double drivers in the left/right for the center channel. And 2 for the bass again. That's how they do an odd number, they double up the odd ones.

I thought that it was 7.1 before I started the thread.

This thing will sound very inferior to a good 2 channel headphone right?
