ms2 vs ms2i

I read it all when I was thinking of buying a pair ( I did ) and the overall saying was that the newer model had a bit more bass as well as a little bit bigger soundstage, we're talking about no more than 5-10% differences here. I definitely prefer the old school frankenstein peg look though than the mushroom look.

What is the difference between these two? When I go to the manufacturers website they only list the ms2, are these actually the ms2is?

Yup; when Grado upgraded the SR-325 to the SR-325i in early '05, Alessandro inherited the new housing right along with Grado.

We started calling it "i" cause there were too many keystrokes in "Fatboy"!

And just to confirm (because I was unsure about it when I bought mine), although the Alessandro website says MS2, they are indeed the updated version--what we call the "MS2i".

x2 Can't afford to buy and try (did that with the 325i) and everything I've read about the MS2i makes me think I would like them a lot.

Oh; and while I'm thinking about it. There is another problem with the photo of the cans in the Alessandro web-site.

The headband pictured on the MS2 is incorrect. It's really the much nicer one pictured on the MS-Pro!

Grado has a sourcing problem. They now can only get two headbands. The smaller one as used on all the plastic Grados and the MS-1, and the larger much nicer one previously used only on the woodies. Yup; the MS2i and SR-325i now get the luxury headband!

i had both the ms2 and ms2i briefly and i could not tell the difference between the two. the drivers are identical so i don't think the newer housing would've made that much of a difference in sound as they're the same material albeit thicker. in the end i kept the ms2 since it had been with me for a while already.

From all the evidence floating around, that seems to be the case.

The John Grado interview seems to state that, and the history about SR-325 to SR-325i compared to MS2/MS2i seems to add to that conclusion as well, since it appears the MS2 and the SR-325 were quite a bit different originally, but when they became the MS2i/SR-325i still with the same(but different new style)housings, the differences were still there but just not as obvious as before. So Grado changed drivers on the SR-325 to SR-325i upgrade, but made no change to the drivers with MS2(i) which means to me, anyway; that there was a vastly different driver in the SR-325, both black and silver, than what there was in the original MS2. And if Grado would have simply swapped the MS2 driver into the new SR-325i/MS2i housing, they should sound the same as the MS2i, which; apparently from all the comparisons; they don't!
