My current portable setup is my only setup. I am thinking about getting some open type cans. I mostly listen rock and some electronic. I have my eye on the MS2i. Do u guys think it would be a overkill with my portable setup ? Thanks... Also I am looking for something with bright (yet not too bright ) and forward sound...

Sounds like the MS-2(i) is in order. Be sure to take care of those aluminium housings though. The outside world can be a cruel place.

Is the E500 not satisfactory? I don't believe the MS2i is going to be 'better' sounding per se, if anything it'll just be a different sound. If you like what you've read about the MS2i then go for it! It'll make a nice entry point to a desktop system too when that comes around in the future.

Like Zorander said, the aluminum can get scratched and it's quite noticable when it does.

Thanks for the input guys; when I get the MS2, they are not gonna leave the house so they should be fine...

Wow! I just did an experiment I did last September, and I got a different result!

Last year I put on my MS2i brand new out of the Pizza Box with their fresh non-broken-in bowl pads and took a brisk walk around the house and out into the yard...they slipped and slid and wanted to follow Newtons laws and generally misbehaved all over the place.

But now, over nine months later with well broken in pads and three band adjustments behind me and....Wow!

I probably WOULDN'T wear them out and about, for bunches of good reasons, but now.....I Could!

Well....perhaps more like a savvy senior politician who has learned how to bend the laws a bit to fit his own best interests.

I'm gonna do the sceptic-again:

Don't forget to take the "small" MS1 into consideration as well. It's about 85% of a MS2 (maybe even more) and can be used as portable fon. The extra detail & oumph of the MS2 won't make such a major difference, unless you're in a quiet place with a good amp - and I mean more amp than a H5 or a redneck Creek thing.

And the KSC75 has 85% of the MS1's sound sig, and 70% of the MS2's sound sig??!?!? Where would you put the KSCs on this scale?

Also, how do you guys compare the soundstage of KSC75 to MS1?

Well, detailwize, the KSC75 is only ~60% of a MS1 IMO. Soundstaging and fun is quite close to the MS1 though. Great little fon, the KSC75.

Don't know the Xin amp. It's that famous little thingy that gets delivered months after ordering, isn't it? However, the soundstaging of such portable amps depends mostly from the utilized opamp. If it has a 627, 8620, 4562 or alike, it will be good, whereas a 5532, 2132 or other "bread & butter" circuits will be more monoish. But my "knowledge" about these things is very superficial, that is rather a question for the amps forum.

How come no one mentioned the 225. They are as light as anything and have great sound.
