Since I've got my AKG K81, my KSC75 and Portapro (both dremel modded) start collecting dust, as they sound very muddy and unprecise in comparison. The job "open portable can" isn't really covered since then.

I listen mostly to electronica like Underworld, Fila Brazillia, Saafi brothers & alike. I somewhat tend towards bassheadism, but the KSC75 bass was sufficient.

Now I have a private offer for a MS1 (60€ incl. diverse pads and shipping) which tempts me very much. Do you expect the MS1 to do the KSC75 job at K81 level with mostly unguitarish instrumental music?

Awright,

Thanx for the Blesses, I'll get them. PM'd the seller, hope I was quick enough, but I think so.

Don't know how the MS-1s compare with the K81s and the others; but I know I'm very satisfied with the MS-1s that I have.

Hope you were quick enough too!

Agreed, and after they burn in, they get smoother and sweeter with the days/usage...so you may end up liking more down the road for other types of music besides underground/house/techno/elec/DnB/Trance/GOA etc..

Actually the MS-1s work quite well for all but the biggest orchestral works! When listening to string quartets, you might as well be sitting with them turning the pages!!

.........ok, just a little exageration......but not much!

Sounds good what you write 'bout classical, 'cause I rather listen to Monteverdi madrigals or violin sonatas or alike than to Tchaikowsky.

I use mine with electronica a lot and it does well. I don't have any other headphones to compare it to though.

They arrived today. I was slightly scared they would sound thinnish, bright and bassless, but I couldn't be more wrong! The bass is just nice, the midrange actually the best of all my cans, only the highs are a bit veiled (even with quartermodded comfis and 414s).

Really really really good cans, and they work quite nice with my LTJ Bukem, Underworld and Co. As F107plus5 already hinted, they don't work with big orchestra raving, but perfectly with anything else less noisy.

In comparison with the K81, the latter still rule though. The MS1 can't compete with the AKGs level of detail and brilliance. But it does sound more natural and has the better soundstage.

My wife will inherit my KSC75s with the Portapro headband.

Thanx to all for caring.

I'm surprised you find K81DJ more detailed. I don't have MS1 but I always imagine them to be really detailed with excellent mids and highs. I'm glad to hear they work well with electronica especially Bukem who is one of my favourite artists. I should really try to find MS1 for demoing
