Well, my MS1 has arrived and... I’m a bit disappointed.
I guess bangraman was right about the European Sony PCDP not having enough power to drive the Grados.
At least I hope it is the crappy Sony piece of junk.

On a low volume the senPX100 sounds better.
But if I turn the volume really high there’s not comparison, the music really comes alive and it is (almost) everything I had expected, and the higher it gets the better it seems. On the other hand the senPX100 the higher the volume the crap it gets.

The fact is that I usually listen to music on a low volume level. I can't have the volume high pumping in my ears for hours and hours. They're starting to hurt -- not to mention the damage.

bangraman gave me a couple of suggestions like buying a PCDP imported from the USA or an amplifier. I really need to know which brand/type is best suited for a PCDP -- please go easy 'cause my wallet not very fat at present.

I really hope that this will solve the problem to the poor quality of sound on the low level volume.

There's gotta be someone in the UK who's able to build you a decent cmoy amp for not much

Just post a "WTB: Cmoy (Builders welcome)" in the headphones for sale forum or something

CV - where did you get your MS-1's and what did you pay? Is there a UK source, or did you import them?

I got it from http://www.alessandro-products.com/headphones.html
~$99 including shipping -- that is about ~£55 -- not bad.
If I were to buy it here I'd probably pay twice as much. Just look at the price of the Grado cans sold here. Not fair.
It took about a week for it to arrive.

Have the same experiance as you do.

I'm currently selling an aiwa(made by sony) PCDP because it doesn't sound good with the ms1s. But with the px100s it was fine. I think it's the px100s overbloated bass that compensates.
With the ms1s you're not getting enough bass with a poor headphone out. It all sound a bit bright. When I hook up my MINT amp I'm getting bass all of a sudden. This is not the soundsignature of the amp because with the px100 the bass gets tamed a bit with the amp.

I wouldn't suggest getting a amp to go with the sony PCDP. Unless you have a line-out on it?
The ms1s sound ok through the headphone out of my iRiver imp-150. Better than Aiwa + amp. I think the iRiver models don't have the european volume cap (yet). You could go with one of them. The battery life for normal CD's is rather poor on the imp-150, 350 and 400 models(4-5 hrs. max). Mp3 CD's are ok. Don't get the imp-700. They managed to get the new budget model to sound like crap. Well, better than my aiwa but still not very good.

If you want to get an amp, I think most DIYers ship worldwide so that won't be a problem.

The ms-1s (with flat pads) mate great with my euro-ipod, but yeah the volume needs to go to 80%. But the sound is good enough to shake your booty for portable home use.

But yeah, it's amazing, the differences in even portable cd players. You could try looking at some of the "legendary" ones on ebay, such as a Sony d-211. But even while you'd be getting much better sound, you'd be loosing anti-skip.

Anyone else use the ms-1s with a pcdp? Which currently made models mate well with them?

From my experience, the answer is yes. But read Duncan's review of pcdp's through the ages. It should be in the Portable reviews section.

Well, to clarify it, the website isn't the only source where to buy Alessandro headphones. There're obviously dealers around the world, however the number would be low. I personally bought my MS-2's from a Taiwanese dealer, as I read there's a dealer in Australia.
