In my opinion these are the best two points that have been raised..

I voted SR225

id go with the MS1 and get a small USB DAC/Amp combo if ALL you have is just laptop sound.

Just my opinion.....garbage in, garbage out.

i would love to. in fact i went for it and got a nuforce icon mobile.

Unfortunately my computer has a problem with USB sound cards. It crackles and stuff and I troubleshooted for over 40 hours but could not find the problem, tested out 3 different usb sound cards, and basically gave up.

So I figure if i need to spend the extra money for the headphones to get the best sound, I'd rather do that. As I have a d2000 already as well which is amazing, but obviously could be better with an amp

Personally, I once thought about upgrading my MS1 to SR225.. But somewhere along the way someone offered me a cheap, used D2 Boa..
Plugged it in to my laptop, and I love the sound so much, the SR225 is already out of my mind

My D2 also crackles horribly everytime I play music right after waking my laptop from its sleep.. After it finishes loading all the memory from disk, the sound clears up..

What were you doing when the Nuforce was crackling?
It's possible that your laptop is too busy processing something to send reliable stream of digital bliss to your Nuforce

Have you tried increasing the priority (of processing time) of your music player?
I set my winamp's priority to "High", one level higher than the default "Normal". (Windows told me that it's not recommended, though. I just took the plunge :P)

thats odd, what OS are you guys using?

Ive been using 2 USB DAC's one is the Lyrix total which is a amp and a DAC and the other is a GO-Vibe USB dac. Both work for ASIO4ALL and foobar. I never had any crackling or breaking up. I think maybe once while i was burning a CD, listening to music and moving some music over to a USB Drive.

Pretty much anything that i did ended up crackling the nuforce. Scrolling down webpages, blowing up pictures, watching a movie, etc.

I tried so many things but didn't want to go all the way into reformatting my computer with it having a MAYBE shot of working so I just figure until i upgrade my computer in a couple years, I can get an amp then. Until then tho, I'd like the best sounding headphones for price i can get

less pron = more music enjoyment =)

I would maybe look at the machine....could be time for a upgrade =) how much ram? CPU? you running XP or Vista? I know XP has issues running 2 sound cards. Vista is easy though.

dell e1505 2gb ram 1.66ghz duo core, xp, x1400 ati radeon, etc.

Altogether it was a solid system at the time i got it and I probably won't upgrade for another 2 and a half years.

So an amp is out of the question for me... well hmm can a fiio e5 connected to my headphone out do me any good?

Haha, im sure thats true for a lot of people but I'm looking to stop all upgrades now until i get an amp and thats for 2-3 years. In fact unfortunately i promised myself i would not log into head-fi once i sold all my other cans and got the 2 full size and 1 iem i needed.

Have had the MS-1's for almost 2 years. In that time have recabled them and put some Headphile C-pads on them. Have not even thought of upgrading too much. Great headphone. Listen to the 225's and they must have not been burned in. The sound was tinny. The MS-1's will not sound tinny out of the box. They ROCK!

you really do want a amp, even a small cmoy is better then the Fiio. There are reviews on it on the forums here.

did you buy the Nuforce? i believe its both amp/dac if im not mistaken.

I returned the nuforce. When I bought it, it enhanced my d2000s sound ridiculously well I was very pleased. However, it was not worth the constant crackle everytime i did something. So i tried it out via headphone out jack only without usb and i could barely hear a difference between it and the laptop headphone out.
