Sorry I dont want to beat a dead horse but though I've asked this before, I really want to know what you guys think as this may be my last headphone purchase for at least a couple years.

Unamped (powered via Laptop jack)

Alessandro MS1 with bowls $105

or

Grado SR225 with bowls $160

Assuming I can get these headphones for the prices mentioned above.

What would you do? Mind you I probably won't "Upgrade" for at least 3-4 years.

The MS-1 is great for the retail price. That used price on the MS1 is a bit on the high side IMO. But the SR-225 is in a higher league sound quality wise. For $160, you dont have much to lose there, especially if you wont be upgrading for awhile.

Why would you make that comment in a thread like this where someone is just trying to get honest opinions between two specific cans?

Either way, go for the 225s. Many think that they are the price/performance sweet spot of the whole grado line up. if you can get them for 160, even better.

Yeah I agree with Uraflit I would go with the MS-1.

My reasoning, well they are both made of plastic, and sort of flimsy looking, and they are notorious for being uncomfortable.

If you are looking for headphones lasting you 3-4 years, I don't think it matter which you get as there is a good chance you'll want to get a different pair of headphones as your main soon anyways.

I would spend the extra money and get something with better build quality and more comfortable that will take a beating and last your 3-4 years. AT, Denon, AKG, Senn, frankly anyone other than Grado.

I'm assuming these will need to be quite sturdy as you have a laptop for its mobility so you will be transporting the headphones frequently.

Hey sorry, I'm making a lot of assumptions here, but that's my take. Get someone with more comfort, and more sturdy build that will last you 3-4 years.

Like Uraflit have you considered the HD25-1 II, there seems to be endless amounts of good reviews on the sound, durability and portability of these headphones.

If you are set on the Grados, then go with the MS-1 and save yourself the money for a future headphone later that will complement your upgraded source/amp

As between the 2, which do you think sounds better?
